Much Much Much better lineup. I like Harris in #2, I like Tolbert playing for Everett and I like Monroe as DH

:| that Tolbert I tell ya.
I was wishing it was Punto.
But I always do, I’m going to go sulk in my corner of angst.

This is the lineup I would like to see. Now lets see if Tolbret and Lamb can hold down the Left side. I have my douts.

Karlee,

Now, don’t be sulking, Nicky will be back. His swing is looking better.

Let’s go get ‘em. I like the lineup. It will be interesting to see who Gardy runs out there in the 7th and 8th innings tonight if Baker is out and we have the lead.

Great lineup i heard an update on the examination of Everett’s arm they revealed that it was actually linguini. I hope Monroe will take advantage of this opportunity.

jama says:

April 15th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

I am predicting that Monroe swings for the fences every at bat and in the 8th hits one out.

If Everett goes on the DL, who gets called up?

The New and Improved Craig says:

Span will return to the lineup against right hand pitchers. Monroe back to the bench.

Jared ZZZZZZZ says:

Bushman as Gardy would say

Craig, I need to be held *weeps*
I mean I love Tolbert, he’s fancy.

But I miss good ol scrappy Punto with his hustle hustle hustle.

Maybe Brian Buscher .405 - .605 - .342. - 38 AB

Robert says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Now THAT is a winning lineup! I like it, it should be the everyday BO until Cuddy gets back.

what the .... says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Why isn’t Punto playing he had the hardest hit ball of the season last night nearly won the game if the lF’r wasn’t so lucky.

Jared ZZZZZZZ says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

I feel like this should be a 1940’s game Tigers vs. Senetors with a guy named Clete in the lineup.

twinlves says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:14 pm

If Everett goes on the DL before Cuddy gets back I would think either Casilla or Buscher. Then when Cuddy returns early next week Span would maybe be sent down, or the guy they called up if they want 6 OF and just 5 IFers. Or maybe a suprise and Gomez is sent down.

Sorry for all the random thoughts

The New and Improved Craig says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:14 pm

There, there, Karlee. Don’t cry anymore. Nicky will be back in there. I promise you. The swing is looking good.

I hate Neil Diamond, also.

JJ says:

I heard on the radio they got the X-Ray back on Everett’s shoulder and it said; A one legged man has a better chance of winning a ass kicking contest than Everett does of starting at SS for the twins again.

Jason says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Shoulder examined? On the day after he commits a HUGE throwing error? Anyone else find that ironic, if not humorous (and spare me the hate emails about making light of an injury–no one wants to see anyone get hurt, of course)

Jason says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Monroe in the starting lineup is the ultimate consolation prize….he should’ve been given the chance for some payback last night when it counted…let’s hope he doesn’t hold a grudge and shift the focus from getting back at the Tigers to getting back at Gardy!

The New and Improved Craig says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

Karlee,

Okay. I won’t mention that name again.

That play Nick made at third, on the highlight reel. Who else could do that? No one. What game was that again? Nick alone, is worth the price of admission.

GBG says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

Jason — if Monroe has that little professionalism, he should be released immediately!

thrylos98 says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

Pitching duel?

From the current Tiger’s lineup only Ordonez (1.121) has a career OPS higher than .788 against Baker, and as far as the Twins go, only Harris (1.500) surpasses that mark against Robertson…

Average Joe says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Neil Diamonds 60’s stuff was pretty good. Give it a try.

Gardy says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

If we lose tonight, it is all on you bloggers. When Monroe K’s 3 times and Tolbert throws wide of first, you’ll come crawling back to me to ask how to fix it.

(The answer is Nicky)

But, you’ll have to beg.

[…] Around the Majors created an interesting post today on Everett to have shoulder examinedHere’s a short outline […]

Joe says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:41 pm

You could can tell that Everett’s shoulder is not right, he threw that like his shoulder is in pieces, for a guy that is suppose to have a pretty decent arm to put hardly anything on it and have it 6 feet short isn’t a good sign…… I don’t know I would think Buscher because he is hitting best but I also look at it and say I think we need a SS kinda guy, maybe the guy we got from the Rockies but he hasn’t hit well yet either……

The New and Improved Craig says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

gobbledy,

Span is an even better player than I thought. He has loads of talent.

thrylos98 says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Joe,

Macri has been awful on the field this year. He committed 4 errors so far. Now the team has 2 utility infielders (Tolbert and Punto) which is a mistake. If Everett goes to the DL, a bat should be brought up. Take your pick: Buscher/Knott/Jones/Ruiz

Karlee says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Joe I have an idea as to who can play ss.

His first and last name start with the same letter. I’ll give you a hint “n”

Gardy says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Pretty funny how Span got his first HR wasn’t it? We had a good laugh and hug in the dugout last night with that.

Gardy says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

what’s joe got to do with starting ss. that’s my job.

The New and Improved Craig says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Nick Nunto?

Gardy says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Nerek Neter?

snepp says:

Interesting decision to have Kubel in RF and Monroe DHing, instead of the opposite.

Career Range Factor at RF:

Craig Monroe: 1.82,
Jason Kubel: 1.00

Kubel has all of 100 career innings in right, nowhere near enough to draw any conclusion of any kind. Monroe’s lack of arm is also significant.

The New and Improved Craig says:

April 15th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

C’mon Karlee, tell us who it is.

Is it Nunto, Neter, or someone else?

BC Beneke says:

substitute Cuddy in there, and this is the lineup I want to see on the field… we just switch up Kubel, and Monroe, and we never see Span or Punto again!

thrylos98 says:

Santana has $130-some million dollars in the bank… his great great grandchildren (and then some) are set… methinks no second thoughts

Santana’s making too much to care. Of course I could be wrong, like Daryl Strawberry when he played for the Isotopes.

I know what this team needs, another “clubhouse guy” who cant play a lick of baseball. Kind of like Denny Hocking. I wonder what he is up to these days? I hope that finger healed fine after getting it stepped on, celebrating at the bottom of the pile.

Gyro Mnemonic says:

April 15th, 2008 at 5:54 pm

What’s it going to take to get Mauer out of the 3 spot? Name it, Gardy… a new bowling ball, a new windbreaker, a new bullpen, an actual Latin-American scouting department, the God-given acumen to know better than to march Guerrier out for a third straight inning? Just name your price, Gardenhire.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 5:55 pm

I wouldn’t be surprised if throw last night was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Everett.

If it is, that’s too bad. You hate to see a guy’s career end because of injury.

MSLY says:

April 15th, 2008 at 5:55 pm

But, for the record, I do like this lineup tonight. I also would not mind giving Ploufe (spelling?) a chance at the big leagues.

Cuddy being healthy again. Pay attention and maybe you’ll be able to catch up with the rest of us.

romer says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:02 pm

Neshek can’t pitch in the cold. Maybe Guerrier too.

Okay, tonight……….

romer says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

Wonder if Gomez swings at the first pitch if it’s down the middle instead of bunting.

MSLY says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

How about this idea — Give Monroe some considerable time w/ Cuddy down, which would hopefully get him on track. Then, since we currently have too many outfielders, trade him w/ maybe a person like Redmond, for an infield prospect? Or, trade Span and Redmond for an infield prospect.

In any event, this organization needs to do something to get more talent in the infield. Hopefully they can swing something.

Karlee says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

Flargle Blarg says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:18 pm

Yes, I agree that T needs something in his life more than his crappy baseball team. Every day (and night!) he’s on here blowing the sh$t like he knows the difference between a baseball and a muskmelon when it’s obvious to everyone that he’s never even played the game. Riddle me this Obi Wan T (since you are the Burning Bush of baseball knowledge that the rest of us only wish that we could be): if a baserunner leaves third-base too early when tagging up to go home on a sac-fly, what’s the proper protocol for the pitching team to record the out? Hint: it’s NOT chase him into the dugout. If it takes you more than twenty seconds to come up with that answer, do the rest of us a favor and shut the hell up for now on.

The New and Improved Craig says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:18 pm

Mauer put the ball in play, and a run scored. Better than a K.

T says:

Would someone out there mind just posting the score and inning for me every once in a while?

I try to figure out whats going on from reading other posts but sometimes it is hard.

Thanks in advance.

romer says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:37 pm

Actually, T is 31 years old and is an employee of one of Mr. Carl Pohlad’s banks. He has worked there for the past 10 years. He is a favorite employee of Mr. Pohlad, and even is allowed to call his boss, Uncle Carl, although there is no blood relationship.

Methodically and surreptitiously, T has embezzled a whopping 400 mil dollars from Uncle Carl, over the past 10 years. All the while T has ingratiated himself with Uncle Carl by vigorously defending him on the Twins blogs. Though accounting irregularities have been noticed, absolutely no one suspects T.

In 3-4 years T will have embezzled enough of Uncle Carl’s funds to make an offer for the Twins team, that Uncle Carl simply cannot refuse. Thus, T, will become the new owner of the Twins, purchased with Uncle Carl’s very own money.

romer says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

We need a new SS.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Ah, so the master plan is revealed! T is practicing to be the next Bremer.

If that were the case it’d be more:

“Morneau hits it HARD…it’s BACK….and Braburn catches it for the 3rd out.”

And I dunno if that one user wants play-by-play or inning by inning.

The Real T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Please put Everett back in. I won’t to show my six year old girl how not to throw a ball to first.

bisonaudit says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

SB? Pudge? busted run-and-hit?

Carlos G says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:56 pm

When did they start giving the other team 3 outs an inning?

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Well that’s no fair Craig, what with you being my evil twin brother.

But in all seriousness, that’s probably one of the funniest things I’ve read from in a while. Mind if I borrow it? I’ll give you full credit.

what the... says:

April 15th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Hey Craig, do those ‘accounting irregularities’ include the fact that Santana’s and Hunter’s contracts have disappeared altogether?

Karlee says:

I’m calling a Toby Gardenhire home run.

Wait..

thrylos98 says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:00 pm

end of 3. 2-1 Twins.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

That was actually all my idea. Uncle Carl had the checks written, I pretended to get mugged (Craig played the theif) and the money was lost.

Thus, no Hunter or Santana this year. But don’t worry, once I’m owner they’ll both be back.

And yeah, this is the actual T.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Wait..
where am I?

2020 maybe? Got any stock tips?

Efus says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:02 pm

Actually Uncle Carl would recognize his own money when he saw it because it has the word “Sealy” imprinted on it from being under his mattress all this while.

Carlos G says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:05 pm

Karlee, that was funny, no matter where you were. Saw Toby play h.s. ball at Roseville. He wasn’t even the best player on that team. lol

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:05 pm

Actually Efus, I’ve ironed that out of all of it. It’s all part of the laundering process.

….see, that’s how you know it’s the real T. REALLY bad puns.

The New and Improved Craig says:

Why did you have to bring up the evil twin thing? Mom always liked you better. That’s why I went over to the dark side.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Wasn’t that the plan Craig? You take over the seedy baseball underbelly, I take over the front office (first step the Twins, next stop Commish).

Together nothing stops the MLB from becoming the next FIFA. (Except people in America will care)

from an article by the astros reporter in the houston chronicle last year:

“[Everett is] the best defensive shortstop in baseball. He saves run after run, makes hard plays look routine. He’s so good he’s easy to overlook.

He hit just .239 last season, but made just seven errors. His .990 fielding percentage was the fourth-best in NL history. He went 53 straight games without an error at one point.

He was named baseball’s best defensive shortstop by The Fielding Bible, which had a panel of experts study the position. Before the 2006 season, The Fielding Bible called him “quite simply the best shortstop in the Major Leagues.”

Ummmm, not even close.

Shhh…I’m in denial!

DJB says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

Lets see you walk Ordonez who kills the Twins, or you pitch to a guy who hasnt swung the bat well all year. I swear if they lose this game, you can pin BOTH losses on Gardy, then the bullpen.

Ben D says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Why do you pitch to him? we are fu&^% lucky we are tied.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

mike, it’s Detroit’s offense. They weren’t going to stay quiet forever. The Twins woke’em up last night. And now they have to suffer.

Wrong btw but that’s the way it is. I think he made 3 appearances before the 9th last year.

Toby says:

DElmon needs to step up and get extra bases so we can end this thing without needing to use anyone other than nathan.

Shaun says:

Mariano Rivera seems to have had a fine career pitching the 8th and 9th inning.

Toby says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Absolute nightmare

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Lets see you walk Ordonez who kills the Twins, or you pitch to a guy who hasnt swung the bat well all year.

And just knocked it over the fence.

At least now the pick-off throw doesn’t make the difference.

snepp says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Why do you pitch to one of the premier hitters in baseball with 2 outs and first base open?

Unbelievable.

bisonaudit says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

just walk the first 8 guys and pitch to Thames.

Shaun says:

Got that right romer.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

The Twins needed Nathan tonight. I have NO idea why he hasn’t been brought in yet.

The story of this series is the bullpen meltdown.

Absolutely embarrassing. The offense can’t give them 9-runs every night.

Toby says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Why would you throw a fastball to HIM of all people in a 0-2 count. This is embarassing.

i hate the twins says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

YEAH! Way to go supposed solid bullpen 2 blown great games by starters in 2 day. Gotta love it

snepp says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Shhh…I’m in denial!

Of course at this point it doesn’t make any difference anymore.

David says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

bisonaudit says:

Everyone screaming for Nathan is right but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

Shaun says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

Crain just hasn’t be right since 2006. Him or Rincon for that matter. I guess I see why the Twins felt they need to keep Natahn around-at least to have one consisten bullpen guy who SHOULD pitch in the 8th inning sometimes.

romer says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

A pretty high fastball too, Toby.

Funkytown says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

No reason Nathan can’t get 4 outs.

Papelbon can

Rivera can

Gardy, way to blow this one…

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Nathan needed to come in there. He hasn’t pitched since Saturday, and this is a must win (salvage a split after almost taking the first game)

If he blows it, then you’re screwed anyway and have to piece something together…but that was Nathan’s time.

Ben D says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Now we will see if who belongs in the lineup. They can step up or step down AAA Ball

A says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Agreed about Nathan - would have brought him in with the runner on 3rd…

Funkytown says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Nathan hasn’t pitched since Saturday.

Very bad decision to not bring him in.

Ben D says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Why keep Nathan he never pitches

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

2 blown great games by starters in 2 day.

This is the bullpen’s problem. The starters scrwed up, but they had leads when they left.

Against a mighty lineup. (Yes, this is a good lineup)

Twins wound up the Tigers…I’d hate to be the team playing Detroit after this. They must REALLY like the Twins right now.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

LF pulled a Span and dropped the ball. Great heads up play by the ump.

Great job by Young keeping with it. The only time he slowed up was when the throw was coming in.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Did Delmon keep running the whole way?

He held up between 2nd and 3rd when the throw came in from LF. But it went wide and he took 3rd.

Okay, seriously. This K-Zone has me completely lost.

Toby says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

The ball was going over the fence, LF got his glove on it and pulled it in…but it fell out on his way down.

Delmon on the heads up play kept going and made it to third.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Also of note: that was ruled a Triple.

So as confused we were about Span’s “error” last night, here’s an equal ruling for Young.

mike wants wins says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Guess I was close on the Young call. Oh well, another blown game by the bullpen. Gotta say, 5 runs against the Tigers pitching is pretty bad :)

Why didn’t Punto pinch hit for Monroe? I mean, I figured after last night that Punto was the better hitter.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Two lessons learned by Gardy:

1) Sometimes Nathan has to pitch the 8th.

2) Get the bullpen warmed up BEFORE there’s trouble brewing.

Other than that…the offense didn’t look to shabby (with a few exceptions) over this road trip (5, 12, 5, 2, 1, 9, and 4 runs)

I’m glad it’s still earlier in the season though. These are mistakes the team can’t afford to make if the offense is going to pick it up like it has lately.

Toby says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Well thank god we woke them up in a two game series and not a 4.

T says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Now let’s hope the Tigers beat up everybody else for a while. The Twins need a break to recoup and hopefully get back into their winning ways with some Ws against TB and Cle.

JJ says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Why is bullpen trying to pick people off. Not like Morneau got a Gold Glove over there.

dan says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

I dont see why they dont try and steal or hit and run with span on first in either at bat, why pull monroe for a PR if you are expecting to just get 2 singles to score, they were playing no doubles defense, Gardenhire really can be clueless.

lilbiscuit says:

April 15th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Thanks

bufftwins says:

April 15th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Jesse had good stuff but he fell in love with his fastball against Cabrera and that pick off was so dumb. Polanco was going nowhere at first base. Gardy needs to use Nathan sometimes to get 4 outs. Maybe Pohlad can lobby his buddy
Bud Selig to move the Twins to the AL West. I don’t think we can compete in this division with the teams that hit the ball over the fence so often. Also,
Baker has such good command he needs to back hitters off more. Throw up and in and low and in to get their feet moving. If not, he’s going to give up 60 homers this year. 6 solo shots the last two games alone.

romer says:

April 15th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Gomez clowns around a bit too much.

Monroe now has higher BA than Lamb.

4 Right-handers in the BP are doing lousy.

But close games in Detroit.

I presume the flu and cold weather are over for the year.

Time to start the season over at the Dome.

LocalHardwareStoreOwner says:

April 15th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Basic Fact of Managing:

in a close game, with two outs in the either, and the tying run at the plate in the best hitter on the opposing team, you bring in your best pitcher.

It is that simple. Sometimes I am astounded by the idiocy of Gardy.

I mean, what the hell is Nathan on this team for if not to get the tough outs at the end of a game? This was THE At-bat that decided the game. You knew it was going to be even before he hit the homer.

How much longer will we tolerate Gardy because he’s a “minnesota guy”?

Jason says:
