Car Craft Summer Nationals Reminder, 7/25, 26, 27

Friday, July 18th, 2008

As you synch your Palm Pilots and set calendric modulation on your iPhones :^) , don’t forget to slot the Car Craft Summer Nationals into your plans for next (not this) weekend.

That great come-and-play venue, the state fairgrounds, will host the event next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Good thing it’s not this weekend, since everyone will be caught up in the Dark Night Batman opening. We’ll just have two things then, the Car Craft show and the new X-Files movie, for next weekend.)

There will be 4,000 muscle cars and street rods on the grounds and enough horsepower to revive the Old West. I’ll be there one of those days–probably being tailed by security if it’s like going to a department store.

As usual, I’ll post a few pics, but you’ll have a lot more fun going in person. Along with the cars will be the Miss Car Craft Summer Nationals contest. Since this is Minnesota and we like to treat folks fair, I’m sure if any of you guys have a nice bathing suit and tan, they’d be happy to expand the contestant pool.  Think of the bragging rights for the guy who takes honors with his street rod and makes the Car Craft calendar.

Sat. July 26th    9-6

Sun. July 27th    9-4:30

We’re planning on being there on Saturday. Hope to meet you there Kris. Are you going to be hanging out anywhere in particular, or just roaming around?

I’m going to stop by tomorrow morning, tool around, photograph a few things and do a post of some neat stuff to check out.

I’ll mostly be walking around on Saturday, but if I see a good spot to gather, I’ll post a time I’ll be there and if anyone wants to get together and talk about which cool cars demand attention, we can.

Cool.

I’ll check your blog here before we leave and see if we can meet up. One suggestion is the Dyno Pull area. That’s always fun to watch. Did you the “bolter” by the Chevy Coupe with the NOX system a couple of years ago? My son and I saw it up close and personal. One heck of a save by the dyno operator.

Sounds good, Dave. I’ll hang out by the dyno testing from 11:45-12:15, red hat, black Strib T-shirt.

P.S. I’ll probably be there with my friend Damon, who women often say looks like Johnny Depp.

I got held up at my house and didn’t get to the dyno area till 12:10. I stayed there till about 1:30. Pretty crowded once the heavy hitter cars got going. Loved that light green Chevelle that made 1250 horses. Yeah baby–but I wouldn’t want to listen to that blower whistling like that all the time. ‘Course, that’s no commuter.

Did you see the 2002 Camaro that made 640 horses? Had a 398 truck engine in it. Seemed like a nice blend of raw power and street(able) presentation.

I asked the dyno operator yesterday what rpms they ran ‘em to before they hit the resistance and he said 3000-3500. Maybe I should have asked him the maximum they revved to because it sounded to me like they were taking them up around 5,000–maybe more.
