Feast or Famine?

Does a pregnant woman’s diet and appetite help determine the gender of their baby?  Studies say there may be a correlation.

Read the article here.

Hmmm, I was pretty much hungry all the time with both pregnancies and I had one of each. Cereal (mmmm… Peanut Butter Bumpers) was my craving  for many a meal. Oh,  and meat.

Does the study ring true for you?

Nope. I was a cereal addict before, during, and post-pregnancy. I have a beautiful little 4-month-old (today!) girl.
Someone should come do a study on my building. In the past year or so, we have had 5 women (including myself) give birth to girls. We have another two babies due next month (both girls). So pretty much if mom works here and is pregnant, go buy pink. ;)

Aren’t they talking about what a woman eats prior to conception? In other words, what a woman eats may affect which sperm meets the egg or which embryo is most viable/stays implanted? If you are having pregnancy cravings, the sex of the baby has already been decided… by the sperm… right? I know that my cravings differed enough between the boys and the girl that I suspected I was carrying a daughter just because the whole pregnancy felt different. But, again, those cravings and sensations happened AFTER she was a she and had no impact on her becoming a she in the first place.

Doesn’t ring true for me. I never eat breakfast, and have 2 boys.

I hear what Athena says. Our group of friends (My husband’s High School friends, 6 couples) has 11 boys in a row, and finally, the most recent three pregnancies created 3 girls. Until these final 3, we used to joke that there must have been extra testosterone in the water at their High School.

Yeah. It’s true for me. I was eating really well (and still do)… probably high end of normal to accommodate my active lifestyle…and had a boy. Breakfast was generally cereal like Special K with a banana on it. LOL!

Wow, thanks for posting the link to this article! I’m 19 weeks pregnant and I’m thoroughly convinced we’re having a boy. Before conception (and still now) I had eaten a lot of bananas and cereal (I have a Cheerios addiction!). There are also some other things that back up my boy theory. Studies have shown that the closer you time intercourse to ovulation, the more likely you are to have a boy as the male sperm swim faster. We timed ours just hours before ovulation and got pregnant. I also took two fun tests online, a Chinese gender predictability test, and a chart test based on age you were at conception, and both said boy as well! Not one thing has predicted a girl so far. We are going to for our 20 week ultrasound actually a week late, the week after next at 21 weeks, but my husband so wants to wait and not find out the sex. So I guess it will be a while until I find out if these are all correct or not!

I have always had a big appetite, and I never, ever skip breakfast. I have one big, fat, healthy boy. I did not change my diet much after having him as I am married to Mr. Meat and Potatoes, so I’m still a big eater and always have a bowl of cereal or oatmeal for breakfast. Now expecting No. 2, but too early to find out what it is, so I’ll form my official thoughts on this around July…

I always ate breakfast, and had a boy. I wouldn’t say, however, that my diet was healthy…I don’t think it holds much truth.

Nope. Not for me. I like cereal but I don’t eat it every day… also can’t stand bananas. And I have a boy! :) I’m pretty skeptical (as usual!)
