Not that Dancing Baby

Remember that silly animation of the dancing baby that was whizzing around everyone’s e-mail a few years ago?
Well, this’ll top it and it’s actually real. It’s a 3-D ultrasound of a baby wiggling in the womb - pretty incredible stuff and certainly more detail than I saw in the grainy black-and-white images my ultrasound technician produced (and which two years later, are still stuck to our refrigerator door).
Josephine Marcotty on our sister blog Bodytalk writes about the husband-and-wife team radiologists at Harvard who wrote the book “Your Developing Baby.”

Wow. Am I the only mom who seemed to feel fetal movements while watching that?
That is amazing! Fascinating to watch…thanks for sharing!
Becky–
I know what you mean! Of course I’ve been feeling phantom movements down there the last couple days in general. Is it that so-far-fictional third baby telling me it wants to be born…?! : )
I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I think that video is creepy. Those 3D ultrasounds creep me out big time. I prefer the grainy black-and-white.
I did not enjoy watching that clip…
The baby looks kinda smushed in there. I like the regular old ultrasounds too. Fingers, toes, gender, but baby’s face is a surprise at birth.
Oh, Katy, I don’t think that baby will stay fictional for long. Your posts show you have baby fever!
wow! that is AMAZING

The discussions in our house go on…and on! Someday we will have it figured out…of course by that time I will be too old! : )
I love that vidoe. I sent the clip to our babysitting coop and some other friends. It really shows the develoment–even at five months (i think that was how far along the fetus is in the video). It would be cool to see a video at weekly gestational stages to see (to the eye) how the outside physical characteristics change.
