Hey all - just a reminder we are having our first Cribsheet get-together at Sovereign Grounds in South Mpls this Saturday morning from 9:30-11:30.

May & I are looking forward to meeting you in person! We want to give the owner a heads up on turnout. If you are planning to swing by raise your hand. (or just do a quickie comment below).

We’re hoping you lurker/non-commenters show up too - (we know you’re out there) we’re all part of the Cribsheet community.

Sovereign Grounds is located just off of Chicago Ave S and 46th St. For more information click here.

Well, yes. And if it’s any consolation, it’s not Disney!

Cribsheeter Katy alerted us to an exhibit of the gowns of Queen Silvia of Sweden called “Fit for a Queen” at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis.

There’s also a Nobel Ball on Aug 20 where little ones aged 3-6 can make their own sashes and crowns and dance at the ball. See, your little girl can aspire to beautiful gowns and a Noble prize….beauty and brains both.

Details here.

Anyone seen the exhibit yet?

Moms on Stage

Maria Asp, Darcey Engen and Nanci Olesen

The Moms are back on stage!

Last year, I hailed what I called the new “Vagina Monologues,” a performance by a group of Twin Cities moms about their deepest joys and fears as mothers. They tested the pieces as “The Mother Project” at a tiny south Minneapolis theater where we the audience laughed and cried along with them.

They’re back.

They promise to reveal “the familiar, desperate edge of everyday motherhood” in “I’m Telling,” part of a show dubbed “A Quartet of Mothers” at Illusion’s Fresh Ink Series, July 24-27.

Who’s in it? Darcey Engen is associate professor in the theatre arts department at Augsburg College. Maria Asp captains The Neighborhood Bridges program at Children’s Theatre and performs regularly with Frank Theatre. Nanci Olesen is an actor, writer and public radio commentator who recently hosted a pilot production called “How’s the Family?” for Minnesota Public Radio. Lisa Channer is co-artistic director of Theatre Novi Most and an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota Department of Theatre Arts and Dance.

“I’m Telling” will be performed along with “Child of God,” Aimee K. Bryant’s story of growing up in a fatherless home and becoming a single mother herself.

Not convinced yet? Watch this rehearsal video.

The shows are on July 24 - 26 at 8pm; and July 27 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 and available at the Illusion Theater Box Office at 612-339-4944 or online at www.illusiontheater.org.

It’s long overdue and it’s finally happening - our first official playdate for Cribsheet. Let’s finally meet face to face at one of the friendliest kid-friendly coffeehouse in South Minneapolis - Sovereign Grounds .  It’s a cozy coffeehouse tucked away on 48th St. off of Chicago Ave S. (near Pepitos).  Half of the place is a dedicated playroom with toys and couches to hang out on. Perfect.

When: Saturday, July 26 (pre-naptime) 9:30-11:30 am.

Please swing by and chat, hang out, bounce a baby on your knee, watch the kiddos play, have a cup of freshly roasted coffee and some homemade pastries. May and I can’t wait to meet you! If this date doesn’t work for you keep checking for future dates, we’d like to make it a habit.

Fireworks After Bedtime

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

This will be the first year Ben will be old enough to appreciate the fireworks this 4th of July. Just wondering where Cribsheeters go to see the big displays with kids.

Any traditions? Parks with fun pre-works activities?

Secret spot? Pre-kid - we took my brother’s kids to see the fireworks in Edina off of Crosstown. Although it was far from the ideal grassy knoll with a blanket and a picnic basket our secret location was the top of the Southdale parking ramp by Dayton’s, Narshall Field’s  Macy’s. Sat on the hood of the mini van and it was an easy departure without traffic or hassle.

Do you have a secret spot to watch the works? Or are you not telling!?
