The Star Tribune newspaper you read each morning, and the site you are reading right now, are the product of hundreds of decisions made every day by editors, reporters, designers and others here in the Twin Cities. In this blog, senior editors will write about how and why those decisions are made and provide a glimpse of where the Star Tribune is headed.

Nancy Barnes is the Star Tribune's editor and senior vice president for news. She joined the Star Tribune in 2003. Before becoming editor, she worked as the newspaper's assistant managing editor for business, deputy managing editor for enterprise, and deputy managing editor for content. Prior to joining the Star Tribune, she was an editor at the News&Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina for nine years. She has also been an editor or reporter at four other newspapers along the East Coast. She is married and has three daughters, ages 18,17, and 12.

Cory Powell is managing editor for presentation and innovation at the Star Tribune. He leads the design desk, the copy desk, photography and graphics, as well as all newsroom operations. Prior to joining the Star Tribune in 2003, Cory was design director at the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina. In nearly two decades in newspapers, he has also been a designer and editor.

Rene Sanchez is the managing editor for news, in charge of managing most of the news departments, the daily news report, and newsroom enterprise. Sanchez, 42, has worked on most of the Star Tribune's major enterprise for the last several years and has been the driving force behind much of the coverage of the collapse of the I-35W bridge. He joined the Star Tribune three years ago. Before coming to the Star Tribune, Sanchez worked for 17 years at The Washington Post as a metro then national reporter. Durign his last six years at the Post, he was based in Los Angeles, covering California and the West.

Will Tacy editor, startribune.com, is responsible for the news content of Star Tribune's website. Tacy joined the company in 2004, bringing with him 15 years of print and online journalism experience. A former newspaper reporter at several newspapers in New England, he transitioned to online news by joining the small team that developed and launched The New York Times website in 1996. He was the site's first news editor and also served as managing editor.
