I regret to say I've never been there, Travelgal. Are you considering it? My last trip to South America was to Brazil, and I'd really like to go back there, but to the north, to Salvador and from there into the Amazon basin. I've also heard great things about Guyana as an emerging eco-tourism destination.

Ugh, it was an expensive travel year for us, so I need to regroup a bit, but I don't really see my travel coming to a halt -- it's too important to me. Instead I'll look for more budget options (Latin America instead of Europe, Asia instead of New Zealand) and fewer domestic trips (or maybe the same amount of trips, but more on frequent flier miles). I'll give up a lot of other things before I give up travel, so, as long as I have a steady job, I'll be off to someplace as often as I can get time off to go.

So, what do you know about Colombia???

Beautifully said. Maybe that's the real reason humans need wilderness -- to remind us how insignificant we and our problems really are.

Enjoy the fall -- I've been working too much and am largely missing it here!

My favorite is the Mathew S. Burrows 1890 Inn. We stayed there on our honeymoon in the Master suite and could see the harbor. We also enjoyed the best stuffed french toast in the morning. When we go back, it will be at the 1890 Inn!

My husband and I stayed for a week at the Firelight Inn and it is the best B&B ever. The owners are the best and they have the most delectable food ever imaginable. We stayed in the Superior Suite which has a great atmosphere and views. Duluth is a great vacation place. I would recommend Duluth and the Firelight Inn to everyone.

[...] Escape Artists » Blog Archive » Duluth named a top B&B town: The September issue of Coastal Living magazine named Duluth the third best B&B town, after Santa Barbara, Calif., and Troncones, Mexico. Our northern city beat out such B&B icons as Key West, Fla. and Kennebunkport, Maine. The magazine singled out the Firelight Inn for being a place that’s particularly great for birders. The other B&Bs mentioned were Olcott House and Solglimt. [...]

My girlfriend and I stayed at Solglimt this past weekend. It was our first B&B experience, and I'm betting that Brian and Mary Grover own one of the very best B&B's around. They're wonderful hosts, fabulous room & location, and their gourmet breakfast was the best! I hope to return there again if I can get on their busy calendar.

I will be staying at Solglimt B&B over MEA weeekend. Most of the time, a hotel room will do, but no hotel can match the relaxation of a bed and breakfast.

We've made Solglimt an annual trip. Right by the canal, sandy beach, great scenery and gourmet breakfast. Throw in the North Shore and it's great, any time of year.
