U women’s basketball: Getting to the line
Posted on December 5th, 2007 – 1:13 PMBy Roman Augustoviz
One key reason the Gophers are 8-2 is that they have made more free throws than their opponents have attempted.
They have made 159 (out of 241), foes have gone to the line for 148 attempts. The Gophers are outscoring other teams 23 to 14.8 points from the line.
Minnesota has won the last 69 games it has scored 70 points or more going back to the 2003-04 season.
After playing nine games in November, the Gophers play just five this month.

I am just glad that we are playing some pretty good basketball right now. I really like how the team is working together and improving. Way to go, ladies!!
The Gophs won’t be able to out-muscle their opponents when they get into the Big Ten schdule.
For most of the season, I think when this team loses it will be because of foul trouble. There seems to be no outside shooting threat besides Fox and Ohm, although Ohm can’t create her own shot.
The squad is getting to line because they’re bullying smaller, inferior opponents. This tactic will come back to haunt them in January and February if it keeps up. They can’t afford for Campbell and Knight to get less than 30 minutes. Hopefully, they are learning to take some charges in practice…
The women Gophers have been playing well against some talented teams. Hope they win the Big Ten title this year–that would be SWEET!!!
