Mystery mushrooms of Hyland Park

Wild, wacky, weird — We love reader submitted photos. Oh, yes, we do.
Dale Mattson came across this monster mushroom on his morning run through Hyland Park in Bloomington. All I can say is hat’s off to you and your photo! (You made my fungi look like button-caps.)

Some of the commenters said you can eat them - I think I’d pass, though.
Could be a puffball, or it could be a huge toadstool. We had some on the lawn here at school that were as big as volleyballs then they opened up to toadstools as large as a trash can lid.

I would be afraid to eat any wild mushroom but morels as it is really easy to think you have a safe one then OOPS! you die.
