Why would people keep chickens in such a small space, when they can’t even enjoy the outdoors? Seems cruel to me.

Give them fresh picked grass they love it. At least mine do.

I let my chickens out in the early evening and they go for the grass. My grass is well cropped around the coup.

And then about an hour or so before sundown, they go back into their coop for the night.
It is a good system, they get fresh grass every day, and I don’t have to worry about them destroying the neighbor’s yard as they only have an hour or so of freedom.

We haven’t made it that far, yet. We want them for the fresh eggs, so we want good layers.

We can keep three hens in Seattle, and had been talking about it for a few months when my roommate found a chicken coop free at the end of our block. Now we just need some chicks!
