The Greengirls virtual plant swap continues

By Jaime Chismar

The second annual Greengirls virtual plant swap is in full swing. If you have plants of any legal kind to share — for free — please post a brief description of them and your general location. If you are looking for a certain variety or cultivar feel free to post as well. Then, using the magic of technology (uh, you know, the blog), just keep your eyes open for people to reply to your post. Yes, it could be a free-for-all. But then, that’s part of the fun. (After another week, we will delete everyone’s contact info.)

EXAMPLES:

TO SHARE: Three extra heirloom fish peppers. Multicolored small peppers look very cool. Needs sun. Golden Valley.

WOULD LIKE: Any kind of basil seedlings or plants. Will pick up at your convenience.

Check back often for new listings. Happy Gardening!

I’ve got two organic Siberian heirloom tomato seedlings at the Friends School Plant Sale that I’d love to pass off to a good home! I’ve never grown this particular variety before, but they’re supposedly determinate, good for containers, and produce small (2″-3″) fruits.

I’m in South Minneapolis.

TO SHARE: The lily-of-the-valley are (is?) taking over some of my flower beds. I can dig up for whoever wants some.

I’m just west of DT Minneapolis, and available daytimes during the week only.

Cindy Lou,
I’ll totally take some of your Lily-of-the-Valley! I live in St. Louis Park. I know it’s not native but it is still one of my favs!

I have drumstick allium, those orange poppies I keep raving about and society garlic, a short allium with blue-green leaves. All do best in full sun, but will certainly do OK in partial shade. Get in touch via jdybusy2000 at yahoo DOT com

I would happily part with a few double orange daylilies, maximillion sunflowers (tall perennial 2-3″ yellow flowers) & red raspberry plants. Did I mention snow on the mountain? FrumpyteddybearAThotmailDOTcom.

Anybody want some mondarda? I’m digging it up this weekend. Healthy plants. Free to a good home.

I might have some spidewort, too.

*gaspgaspgasp* Really Connie?!?! I ADORE mondarda!! Should I email you at the greengirls account? Or perhaps you could drop me a note at minneapolisgirlatgmaildotcom? Yay!

BTW a big thanks to Judybusy for the Allium! The yard of my new house is looking less and less bare every day, thank goodness! :-)

Hey, ranty, I think I caught a glimpse of your house as I drove up the freeway–I assume it was the one with the porch supports? A work in progress in many ways! I’ll keep an eye out for your growing garden!

Oh, I also have Columbine canadensis volunteers to share. They are good sun and shade flowers, red and yellow.

Judybusy, now that you’ve dug up have your yard, what secret plans do you have for your garden?

judybusy says:

May 29th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

Hey Jaime, I have not dug up half of it, just prepared the vegetable bed as usual! I am sort of looking for a Northern Highlights all white azalea, but no luck. Oh, yeah, I could get it at Tangletown for twice the price of anywhere else….

Ranty,
I can give you as much monarda as you want and still have plenty left for me. Want to pick them up at the newspaper in downtown Minneapolis?

Connie Nelson says:

Judybusy,
How can I get my hands on some of that columbine?

Hey Connie, I work at the Grain Exchange. I can bring some to work and we can meet. How many do you want?

povertyrich says:

I have some extra tomatoes (not sure what variety yet; they’re volunteers), and a ton of extra sunflowers if anyone wants to drive to Seattle.

Connie Nelson says:

Judybusy, that would be sooooooo cool! I’m in the office tomorrow (Friday) and every day next week. Call anytime at 612-673-7087. Want any mondarda in exchange? How ’bout some phlox? Daylilies?

Fiona, I picked up San Marzano tomatoes at Mother Earth Gardens. They have a lot of heirloom varieties - lots of tomatoes I’ve never heard of, in a wide range of colors. I love that garden store - lots of organic plant starts, plus organic compost in bulk.
