The IRS just released the stimulus payment schedule, which it based on the last two digits of Social Security numbers. The first payment will be sent out on May 2nd.

Drumroll, please:

Stimulus Payment Schedule for Tax Returns
Received and Processed by April 15

Direct Deposit Payments
If the last two digits of your Social Security number are: Your economic stimulus payment deposit should be sent to your bank account by:
00 – 20 May 2
21 – 75 May 9
76 – 99 May 16
Paper Check
If the last two digits of your Social Security number are: Your check should be in the mail by:
00 – 09 May 16
10 – 18 May 23
19 – 25 May 30
26 – 38 June 6
39 – 51 June 13
52 – 63 June 20
64 – 75 June 27
76 – 87 July 4
88 – 99 July 11

But remember, you have to file your tax return to get a payment. Here’s the full press release.

I had two questions for my IRS spokeswoman Carrie Resch:

#1: If you filed jointly, whose SSN does the IRS use? (Answer: The person who is primary on the tax form).

#2: If you already filed and did not receive a tax refund, does that mean that you will receive a paper check? (Answer: Yes, unless you provided direct deposit information on
that return in anticipation of the stimulus payment. If you still haven’t filed, owe tax and want your stimulus payment direct deposited, the IRS encourages you to complete the direct deposit portion of the 2007 tax return.)

Bad luck, Kara. I am listed as the primary on my return, have a SSN that ends in far higher digits than my husband’s, and filed without direct deposit since we owed. ETA for our stimulus check? July!

The IRS also posted a calculator over the weekend to help you figure out just how much money to expect.

Lucky me. I fall in the first bracket, and am getting married May 2. I guess that’s the gov’t wedding present to me, hunh? However, I’m also in the phase-out range, so it’ll be a bit less of a present… And I’m getting married in Italy, so convert that to Euro, and I guess I can buy an extra cappucino while there. I will raise my cup and toast the gov’t, sending a hearty thank you across the pond.

(Frankly, I think the whole stimulus package is laughable, but it doesn’t mean I’ll send it back.)

it would be nice to get some numbers? like, how many electronic deposits in the first batch, second batch, etc… the most interesting part is that it takes 2 months versus 2 weeks for mail versus electronic deposit…. i guess those mailmen and women can’t be over worked!

Too bad I am the primary and have a higher number than my husband–his is less than 5! Oh well, at least we get the direct deposit with the second wave.

I heard that the stimilus money is coming out of next year’s tax refund (if you expect one next year for your 2008 return).

So it would be wise to put your stimulus in savings, yes?

Happy birthday to me! Thanks fellow taxpayers & future taxpayers. I’ll have to remember to thank my daughter when I pick her up at daycare.

I’m eligible for a payment but I still owe federal income tax from a prior year. Will my payment be reduced?

A. Yes. For this purpose, the stimulus payment is treated like any other tax refund. This means that part or all of your payment can be used to pay past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support. If this occurs, you will receive a letter explaining how the stimulus payment was applied.

I thought this money was to help the economy by the above question and answer it’s saying that this could be applied to a debt. This is not going to help stores and such. Stupid

Shoot, wish my husband was primary. Instead of 5/2, we’ll be 5/16. At least it’s direct deposit — sorry Kara!
