Grab your #2 pencils : Test your financial know-how

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

O.K. You don’t need pencils. But since we’ll all have a little extra time on our hands with the holiday and all, I thought I’d give you some homework.

This quiz, to assess your financial wellness, was sent to me by Tracy in Bloomington courtesy of the Personal Finance Employee Education Foundation.

I just came across a Financial IQ test from bills.com too (haven’t taken this, though so not sure how it is).

Here’s a quiz to see how much you know about becoming a millionaire by thirty, a gimmick to sell the book of the same name. Don’t need this quiz to know that oops, didn’t make it.

And if you have a lot of time on your hands, there’s always the Jump$tart Financial Literacy quiz. Download the first word document.

Want to get rid of your gas guzzler?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

If you’re sick of getting 15 miles per gallon, but you’re not sure if it’s worth it to trade your car in, Edmunds.com has a new Gas-Guzzler Trade-In Calculator, that figures out the pay-back period and fuel savings you’d get if you traded in your Suburban for a Smart car.

Webcasts a plenty

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

There’s a lot of garbage online. But there’s also a wonderful array of free tools at your fingertips.

In recent weeks, I’ve been notified about several financial webcasts on topics ranging from women and money to saving on groceries.

Here are a couple to check out if you have some time. Add your own favorite webinars or online money resources too– including other finance blogs you read with regularity (I check out filife.com — an interesting new partnership between Dow Jones and IAC and whatever’s new from the aggregator pfblogs.org every day). I should make a separate post one of these days of my most frequented personal finance web sites I surf as well.

Back to the webinars. The Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Atlanta has a series of “webinars ” on multiple topics, including the how to save on groceries program I mentioned above.

Tomorrow, USAA is having an hour long seminar for women about getting out of debt. It doesn’t appear like you need to be a member to participate in the program and have your questions answered.

I signed up for USAA, although the 7pm central time slot is not terribly convenient. Maybe I’ll see your question there!
