The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is back in the news with TV interviews and speeches over the weekend and Monday. Here are You Tube postings of his speech to the National Press Club on Monday, and the ensuing Q&A.
Since these videos sometimes get removed from You Tube, here’s the link for CSPAN, which aired his speech.
Also, if you’re the reading rather than the watching type, the Chicago Tribune has a text of the full speech and Q&A.
Part 1 of Wright’s speech:
Here’s Part 2:
Here’s Part 3:
Here’s the final part — the Q&A session:
I understand the expressivity differences that often exist between whites and blacks with blacks singing and talking and preaching more loud and proud than their white brothers. However, why did Wright, again, feel the need to hide behind this wonderful difference between the races to once again lambast any one who dares question hateful ways. The man is a vile soul
I am firm believer in the Out of Africa theory that we are all descended from African Eve. As an European derived American, I have no issue with my origins being African. If there is a bit of veracity in that then how can there be such vast differences over thousands of years and generations between variations of essentially the same root stock.
Pastor Wright’s speech is similar to that given by him at Simpson College in January and his talk on tonality similar to talks by African-American choral composers.
I am dismayed the out and out hatred and anger showed by African-Americans, European-Americans and other hyphenated groups. The wonderful blending of traditions and perspectives seems to be descending into tribalism. Chilling and does not bode well for our Union.
Mr. Wright has some mental issues.
How he can’t understand his own words is beyond me.
He reminds me of David Duke, only less intelligent.
Dangerous man, and someone who has political aspirations should have known better than to embrace his thinking.

Dennis,
Please thank Will Tacy for this information. Very interesting.
Can you find out what McCain and Hillary are doing later this afternoon?
Great work, men!
I wonder if the media thinks they are being such sly dogs in covering such non-events like Obama, a forty something, getting waxed by college athletes ? I mean it’s just an elaborate (in vid no less) photo op, and a lame one at that, staged for the fav man, so why treat it like news ?
Are the “affluent whites”, one of Obees monied armies, so prevalent in newsrooms and publisher’s offices that they need to print this nonsense ? And besides, Obee can’t find the time on the campaign trail to debate Clinton without 10 cue cards in front of him, but he can spend time playing ball. The answer to tha would make a better story, Mr. newsman..
This is one of those “crises” that slays me esp. concerning the coverage of events like this, in this case a crisis that casts mud on the man of Change, Hope and New politics (though changing horses midstream concerning the jolly old Reverend reminded me of the cut and run Old school politics of Nixon).
But the three armies of the night in Obama’s corner, blacks, students and “affluent whites” (whatever that means) will put their own spin on Obama’s quick about face noticing, as he surely did, a precipitous drop in his polling results.
Blacks, in the order of 20 million plus have voted for this man, many of them according to exit pollers mainly in the South, did not know a thing about him or his platform other than his race. I sincerely doubt this row with the Reverend will make much difference.
As for students, it is far too easy to go after Obama’s college corps, since I well remember being such a true believer myself during Vietnam days. What is so hard for these kids to keep in mind is that their focus really isn’t on this man from Illinois they know so little about. Their focus is really on themselves, their emotion, their singleminded desire to win..and that is much of what this is all about..winning, a leftover from the high schools they just left. To keep that in perspective, I love the old Dylan line “I was so much older then. I’m younger than that now” ..it just takes so long to grow young
As for the “affluent whites” they really are everywhere…colleges, small business but where they can and are the most influential i.e. destructive is in the media they own or work for. Example. A paper has every right …and responsibility ..to support any candidate they choose. Any paper can also print any columnist as well. But, what has happened in not only this paper but many I have read on the ‘net is that in the opinion pages, op-ed letters, the number of letters supporting Obama or at least not bashing him significantly exceeds the number of letters supporting Clinton.
That’s not to say the inverse is sometimes true, that a letter supporting Clinton or casting a blemish on Obama doesn’t appear. It’s just to say if someone, and I have been that someone, were to count letters in the Star or the Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis etc. papers it would quickly become clear that the often levied charge of bias is indeed well founded.
And that..is unfair, since a newspaper only has the right to influence the public’s vote in it’s editorials, NOT in the flavor or partisanship of the letters they print. Those letters are not to be trifled with, and in this campaign more than any I’ve ever seen, I have seen rampant bias. And to put an end to this, who may I ask who works at these papers and makes these decisions ? The “affluent whites”. That’s who.
