La Velle,

would that be a live broadcast in the ‘internets’, for the ones of us who don’t happen to live within the KFAN footprint?

If I call, I’ll have to decide if it’s going to be finding out why they chose Casilla for the Twins, or What it’s going to take to make the Timberwolves a contender.

Which is going to be more entertaining for you LaVelle?

thrylos…

http://www.kfan.com you can listen to the station right off of your computer. If you’ve never listened. Their weekday lineup…

In the drive time morning slot you have Mike Morris former long snapper for the Vikings, and he is a personality… he’s one of the sweetest guys a person could ever know, but he can also be the biggest 9 year old on the planet. It’s hard not to love him and want to ground him at the same time.

After that PA and Dubey (rhymes with PA) are the most sports oriented show in minnesota… they talk sports within sports, and they have a click all to their own. When PA is on which is 95% of the time he’s as good at talking sports as anyone in the country. When Dubey isn’t whining… he provides a great deal of passion, and indepth fandom. He’s not quite as mature as PA, but he’s probably an even bigger sports fan… bleeds it pretty clearly.

Noon to 2 is Dan Cole, and a waste of two hours most days. I mean some days his schtick is amusing, other days he’s more annoying than Rush Limabaugh, and Larry King talking about the merits of Chocolate Chip Cookies over M&M cookies while popping perscription meds like there were pez.

2-4 Sid’s Kid, and former voice of the Twolves radio (when it didn’t suck) Chad Hartmann. He isn’t the kissup that his dad is, but he also doesn’t have the sports connections that his dad has. He’s pretty well versed in everything, and he puts a very good program together every day.

4-7 Dan Bareirro is a freaking GOD to me. I mean I just misspelled his last name, but he will take apart anyone and anything at the drop of a hat, but if someone does something noteworthy on a positive he is not impossible to get a compliment out of. He’s liable to bite a caller’s head off every once in a while, but his show is the perfect blend of sports, and real life. I am bias as hell because his attitude on sports is dead on. He doesn’t take it too seriously, and he will call it as he sees it, and he isn’t going to mix words. I don’t always agree with him which I can appreciate, but I never miss his show.

7-9 is Henry Lake, and sometimes Sludge and Lake. Lakes’ smooth and will one day get Cole’s hours I’m guessing or he will partner with Dubey if PA moves on to bigger and better stations like ESPN radio. Sludge… Some people hate him, some people like him. For me, he’s my second favorite person on the station next to Danny B. He’s no where near as well versed on anything in life like Dan is, but he’s got a serious eye for sports, and he’s a true fan with the ability to put sports in perspective and not live and die with it which I had more of myself.

I know so much because I know the guy who helped create the forum for the station way back when Thoratolo and Jesse Ventura were working there, and the cheap people at Clear Channel gave him an assignment to put together talk 100.3 and then cut him lose after he did everything they asked for. The man delivered them the Vikings and the Timberwolves, and then 100.3 and they trimmed him from the payroll so the station has been pretty near and dear to my heart for a long time, and it took me a long time not to hate Anselmo and those guys for what they did, but business is business, and sports to me is life, and not business…

BC,
Damn! Thanks for the details :)
I listened to Bareiro’s show a few times over the net for old times’ sake (Bareiro still had a full dark head of hair and a mustache when I left the Twin Cities area ;) )
Over here I am listening to the similarly coded but different in programming WFAN station (660 AM NYC based with a 500 mile radius; Mike and the Mad Dog are their biggest draw, you probably heard of them)And . The single radio personality that I miss from the Twin Cities is Steve Cannon of ‘CCO fame. And i do remember Mike Morris as the long snapper for the Vikes… Well, that dates me i guess ;)

I’d be interested to know what the twins do in the way of flexibility to supplement their strength and conditining program. Hamstrings and hip flexors (groin pulls) are preventable injuries. It seems every year we lose way too many players to muscle strains.

My take on KFAN shows…

Morning Show - I have listened to about 5 minutes of the morning show (total) and had to turn it off. There are WAY better options all over the dial at that time slot.

PA and Dubay - I affectionately like to call them PA and Douche Bag :) But they are alright to listen to once and awhile , but they tend to be way over the top most of the time.

Common Man - BC; you are way off here. He puts together a great show and for those of you that think otherwise are probably a part of the 7 out of 10. Way to go “Dan from Woodbury.”

Sid’s Kid - Agree with BC, and I CAN’T STAND his father!

Dan B - agree with BC except the GOD part

Sludge and Lake - 1 word…painful

PA and Douchebag haha… I always loved that one. It’s funny because it’s true. Common is the only guy worth listening to. I can take or leave Bairerro or however you spell his name.

BC Beneke says:

I get Common Man’s bits. I just don’t find them all that amusing. I know what he’s trying to do, I just don’t find him all that entertaining guys. Sorry.

I didn’t want to be mean to Dubey… everyone listens for PA, and Dubey has made a lot of money off of that partnership.

Morris’ show might not be the greatest thing on earth, but his work with charities, his tributes to fallen soldiers… The things that he does outside of his show is amazing. Hawkey is entertaining as long as he’s not talking about racing, or Warrant (worst F’ing band ever)… but I like Henry Lake’s take on things, and if you were listening around Martin Luther King Day he did a show on racism that showed glimpses that he’s quite capable of growing into the big chair, and now he’s on Sunday mornings too…

Two thoughts about Barrio:

Has the longest questions in the history of talk radio. I actually have timed him and he once asked a question that took him TWO MINUTES to ask!!! Good Gawd, Dan, let’s hear what the GUEST has to say!

The “I, I, I, I’s” Don’t know if he flips out or what, but virtually every time I put him on - which is pretty rare these days, he does his runs of I’s. Perhaps he’s still trying to think of what he’s going to say and doesn’t want anyone else interrupting him - like they’d have a chance! :*)

LaVelle,

Ben-a-key

Thanks for answering the question. A friend of mine compared Davis to Gomez, and I looked up his stats, and it was pretty amazing he had a year with 28 homers and 80 steals…

I agree with you on the fact that Gomez has that IT factor. I didn’t know that when he was a MET, and I still would have rather gotten the guys from the Red Sox as a whole, but Gomez could be the most talented player this team has had since Tony Oliva before he hurt his knees.

Anyone see how Terry Tiffee’s been with the Los Vegas 51s? He’s tearing the cover off the ball, too bad he’s never been able to translate it into anything at the major league level.

Any reason why casey daigle isn’t on your
short list to rplace neshek? He’s easily pitched the
best for the redwings

If you want baseball talk, Dubay is the only person who knows what he’s talking about. The rest of the guys either have no clue what they’re talking about, or they say things just to rile people up. PA is annoying a lot of the time, but at least he doesn’t pretend to know baseball. With the exception of Dubay, the rest of KFAN follows baseball casually at best. I bet nobody on the Fan (except maybe Dubay) could list 20 Twins.

Tiffee can hit, but he can’t play any position. With teams carrying 12 or 13 pitchers, it’s hard to carry a player like Tiffee on a major league roster. Brian Buscher is a similar player.
