Finishing details.

I feel like most posts have become a little lame as of late. At this point we are trying to live our lives among tiny little projects and boxes of our stuff —and in all honesty it has taken a great deal of wind out of my sails.
I try and spend a little time each day after work and attach one little project. Sometimes it’s putting in door stops and other times its cleaning all the dust that seems to be floating in the air and collecting on just about every surface. Whatever it may be, it has made it hard for me to share as much of the excitement I feel about the house. Many of the little things that come along are so anti-climactic in the grand scale that I almost forget that they have happened.
This week as I was installing the door stops around the house I ran into an opportunity. The stop for the downstairs bathroom was about an 1/8 of an inch to short. The door hit the stop, however it was only striking the top metal area instead of the bottom rubber portion. I needed something that would raise the stopper up about 1/4 of an inch or so. As a wandered around the house pondering the possible solutions that I had at hand I stumbled on my solution. Target’s prescriptions come with a color coded rubberized ring that allow you to tell peoples prescriptions apart. As it turns out the ring on one of the empty bottles we had was the exact same size at the door stop. I placed the rubber ring under the stopped and fastened it down. It was short enough that that stopper was still firmly secured but tall enough that it raised the stopper up so that the door struck the stopper on it’s rubberized pad and on top of all that, it actually looks pretty cool.

The turnbuckle went on the awning. It’s a primer red color and I think that we will leave it that color. It’s sort of nice contrast with the silver.

The grate in the front steps takes water away and also provides a place to clean the dirt off your shoes before you enter the house.

I helped Corey Benedict install the last pieces of the deck rail.

The deck rail is up.

The door stop with my added detail.
