It’s heating up in the Chicago dailies

The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times do not have the reputation for enjoying a friendly competition. It’s old-school in Chi-town, with bitterness, cheap shots and barbs traded back and forth all the time. But this (via Deadspin) is a little extreme: It seems the Sun-Times has suspended the comment features at the end of pieces by their sports columnists, most notably the rather incendiary Jay Mariotti. So the Tribune has taken the liberty of setting up a place where readers of the rival paper can vent about Mariotti on the Tribune’s web site. The comments need to be tasteful and short, they say. Like this:
C’mon people, Jay gets it. Sticking with one opinion is for suckers. Integrity inshmegrity. It takes a special person to write at a 4th grade level and pander to the lowest common emotional denominator. You guys are just jealous because he was able to parlay zero talent into a prosperous career.
We’re guessing this will not end well. That said, we’re open to suggestions for turning the comment section over here into a full-fledged ripping of other media outlets. Wait, we didn’t mean that. Stop! Close that Pandora’s Box!

I once saw Phil Miller steal a parking spot from an old lady, then do a victory dance on the hood of her car. And John Shipley clubs baby seals for fun.
Hey, the ChiTrib is right - this IS fun!
The dude who’s always passing gas in the press box? Souhan.
Can the Strib set up a special place for comments about Nick Coleman?
Shooter likes to go through Drive Thru’s sans clothes!
Does the PP have a page set up to complain about Rand? If so where’s a link?
Isn’t that what the Internet was created for? I mean, other than pron, of course…
If one person can’t point out the flaws of another person to dozen(s) of other people, then what the hell are we doing here?
Maybe a Coleman/Kersten battle?
Maybe a Coleman/Kersten battle?
Getcha popcorn ready.
It’s all part of John Gabriel’s “Greater Internet [redacted]-wad Theory”
explained here
I should say that the link I posted is to wikipedia, but it doesn’t censor the [redacted] like is done here.
If Jay Mariotti can’t handle criticism from readers because of the ridiculous way he approaches column-writing, then he shouldn’t have a job with the Sun-Times. He is incredibly hostile and demeaning, yet he avoids everyone he talks about so that he can’t be criticized himself or be possibly perceived as “wrong”. What a hypocrite.
there’s a website that is dedicated to uniting Chicago through the hatred of his no-talent columnist.
