Stu’s Hunt Down: Ndudi Ebi
Posted on April 11th, 2008 – 10:30 AMBy Michael Rand
Name: Ndudi Ebi
Nickname: per David Stern, “Doody Ebee.”
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: was the T-Wolves’ first-round pick in 2003. Would reward the Timberwolves’ braintrust by playing 19 games and scoring 40 points before being released in 2005. Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks took All-Star Josh Howard three picks later.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: Wikipedia says he committed to attending the University of Arizona before declaring for the NBA draft. See how you are, Tucson? See how you are? Now, go back to being Tempe’s less-interesting sister with emotional problems*.
Where He Is Now: Ebi is honest-to-Marth tearing it up for Bnei HaSharon in the Israeli Basketball Super League, or as I like to call it, Ligat Winner. He was even named Round 20 MVP by Eurobasket.com. I am assured that is meaningful.
Glorious Randomness: Can there be anything more gloriously random than finding out Ndudi Ebi is playing basketball somewhere at a high level? It’s like finding out Lew Ford did something fundamentally sound. That said, it’s should be noted that if you plug “Ndudi Ebi” into the Strib’s search engine, it asks, “Were you looking for nudity ebb?” No, really.
*I’ve never been to Tucson.
[Proprietor notes: Photo above from the Star Tribune; further research also indicates that you can buy Mr. Ebi’s draft day nameplate for just over 13 bucks.]

True Story:
When Doody was a Rookie and the Wolves were training at St. John’s I saw him checking out rims at the local Tires Plus store in St. Cloud. Why when you are a millionaire you are shopping for rims at Tire’s Plus I don’t know, but they did a great job on my oil change that day.
Oh yeah I am 6′1 and I think I weighed more than him. And yes I may have been a little on the overweight side, thank you very much Busch Light, but he was about as skinny as Corey Brewer.
Ebi, in my books, will go down with other great mn sports stars such as: Wasswa Serwanga, Dmitrius Underwood, Corky Miller, and of course Shane Heal
Can we require some sort of license for our hometown GMs? There would be some basic skills tests involved, maybe an obstacle course, and then a namecheck to make sure the applicant’s last name isn’t ‘McHale’.

I lived in Tucson once, and I would say that the emotional problems are what makes Tucson more interesting than Tempe.
Also, I wonder if someone shouldn’t forward this to Kevin McHale. I bet he wonders where Ebi got to sometimes, too.
Stu
What are you doing? McHale is going to see that he is succeeding and draft him again. When this happens the wrath of T-Wolves nation will come down on you.
I forgot you spent some time there, Jon. I’ll take your word for it, although my brother says the scenery in Tempe is nicer. Ahem.
When one of you guys inevitably forms a band because you’re so damn good at Guitar Band or Rock and Roll Star or whatever, might I suggest Nudity Ebb as your band name?
Stu -
Are you sure the band shouldn’t be named “When Doody As A Rookie”?
That’s “When Doody Was A Rookie”
Hang on.
BRING ME SOME MORE COFFEE, WOULD YA?
Where was I?
Was that the same year we drafted Rick Rickert? You should hunt him down next.
there’s nothing more idiotic than evaluating a draft pick by players that were picked later. even the best teams don’t draft well every year, there’s always an element of unpredictability.
we’ve done as well as anyone the past 3-4 years, the players we took among the players that were available. we’re a very talented young team that has beaten phoenix, orlando, etc and we’ll only get better. look at dallas’ other picks, or anyone else’s, over a several year period, or don’t bother offering an opinion.
example, everyone missed gilbert arenas, he went second round.
hey, Im a wolves fan from MN, going to school at UA. Its not our fault that that bum decided to go to the nba, or that the wolves picked him for some ridiculous reason. He’s not one of us whatsoever. Hell, we probably got a good deal by him not coming… I dont think he would have even been good in the college game.
