Weekend links with Jon Marthaler

Happy Saturday, everyone. I was going to begin this post with another analysis of the “Costas Now”-caused battle between the blogosphere and anti-blog members of the traditional media; however, 2,000 words and three management analysis frameworks later, I decided that this isn’t the right time and place. Maybe someday RandBall will let me loose with my business-school credentials (hear that, Mr. Wilbon? Credentials!) in a guest post.
On with the links:
*Via The Big Lead: Two guys from Brandon, Manitoba — Jeremy Sawatzky and David Larkins, who work for a couple of Brandon media outlets - have a long-but-great interview with Mose Schrute / Michael Schur / Ken Tremendous, of The Office / Fire Joe Morgan fame. Of course, this comes on the heels of Schur’s appearance on the infamous “Costas Now.” His reaction to the fallout - along with some stories from the Office set - are contained within the 45-minute interview.
*Yesterday’s edition of RandBites touched on a sample Wonderlic Test that can be found here. I find it difficult to believe that John David Booty is smart enough to run a complex collegiate offense, but that he can only answer 14 questions like “What is the ninth month?” in 12 minutes. According to Wikipedia, Booty’s score (per this site’s report) is just under that of your average warehouse worker. A score of 20 apparently corresponds to a score of 100 — average — on a typical IQ test, so it would appear that a 14 would mean you are holding a few low cards in your hand.
*Steven Levitt, famed author of Freakonomics, once again has his picks for today’s Kentucky Derby. The caveat: last year, he told people not to pick eventual winner Street Sense. (Insert joke about economics and dismal science here.)
*Speaking of odds: I bet there were some seriously long odds on Marvin Harrison - nice, quiet, Marvin Harrison - getting caught up in a shooting investigation. It would appear that Marvin’s gun shot somebody near Marvin’s restaurant, making it slightly odd that Marvin’s agent is claiming that Marvin is not under investigation.
That’ll do it - enjoy the weekend. Even if you’re up north and there’s snow on the ground. Paul Douglas is sorry. But hey, it’s only May 3, right? (Stabs self with rusty scissors.)

Yay for first place! However long this will last, I will enjoy it today.

I’m disappointed - I put Brandon in Alberta (instead of Manitoba, where it actually is) and not one person noticed it.
[redacted]! Her name is Alberta, she lives in Vancouver…
Jon: no worries, the Canadians are so polite they’ll blame themselves.
Fixed.
I felt bad once I noticed the error, since it’s the equivalent of writing “St. Paul, Wisconsin” or “Ortonville, South Dakota.” I’d like to apologize to the entire nation of Canada.
Brandon? Drove through on the way from Winnipeg to Regina. Very quickly.
There’s nothing like planning to go to bed early - then getting derailed by a three-overtime hockey game.
Actually, it’s just the fifth intermission - for all I know, this one’s going five OTs.
Meanwhile, reading the Cleveland papers this morning, I’ve reached the conclusion that the Indians have less offense than an episode of “Donny and Marie”.
+1 to Dave for the Ave Q reference.
