NBA playoffs ex-Wolves Eastern all-star team

mchale.JPGA message from Roughkat last night about the former Wolves playing in the Cavs/Celtics series got us thinking about whether one could field a complete lineup using only ex-Wolves remaining on the eight playoff teams. The answer: you could do so, but you don’t even need all eight teams. You just need the four teams left in the East.  And it’s a squad that would likely make the playoffs. Shocking, but true. Let’s break this down:

Center: Theo Ratliff, Detroit. It was a great run here. The knees feel better during wins.

Power forward: Kevin Garnett, Boston. He’s pretty good.

Small forward: Wally Szczerbiak, Cleveland: A candidate to be punched in the face at any point by KG — though that doesn’t necessarily differentiate things from their days as teammates.

Shooting guard: Maurice Evans, Orlando: Lest you forget, Maurice spent 10 games with the Wolves in 2001-02 after being signed as an undrafted free agent. We didn’t need him; Orlando sure doesn’t mind having him as a starting guard.

Point guard: Chauncey Billups, Detroit: In Minnesota, the greatest debate we ever had was whether his nickname should be Chancy or Launchy. With the Pistons, he’s Mr. Clutch and one of the best point guards in the league.

Bench: Sam Cassell, Boston; Joe Smith, Cleveland. Scoring and hustle, small and big, off the pine. A perfect combo. Quick, sign them to an illegal deal they will squawk about.

Coach: Flip Saunders, Detroit.

Put five scrubs around these guys to fill out the bench and you have a 50-win team.

Amazing.

We don’t give McChump enough credit. He was responsible for getting all of those guys. So what if we got rid of all of them. We’re a 40 win team next year.

Question: Would this be a 50 win team in the West or is there a reason all these guys ended up in the East?

Would you consider Ray Allen an ex-Wolf? If so you can a real Shooting Guard. Although he had what some might call a bad game last night.

This video sums up how I feel about the Wolves and McChump’s decisions.

I’m the guy working at the liquor store and McChump is McLovin. See, it’s barely even a stretch to imagine this.

I debated Ray Allen. Best part: Didn’t need him.

Oh, GM Cuckoo Bananas, that picture of you grimacing just never gets old.

How has the off season neckbolt-tightening gone?

I debated Ray Allen.

It’ll be included in the Costas Now: The Lost Episodes DVD set.

Yeah, this hurts to read.

You forgot to mention Cassell’s huge cajones. Not sure how exactly, he likes to show them off at every chance possible.

So what! Theo and Cassell have been injured (did not play) more often than healthy. Funny how they get well during playoffs thought. Wally has had his bags packed more often than the Fuller Brush man. Joe Smith also is a bench player with limited minutes. KG is playing well.

If only George Mikan hadn’t aged…that’s how ridiculous this discussion is.

“Put five scrubs around these guys to fill out the bench and you have a 50-win team.”

I think the Wolves players are busy playing golf and gambling. But I’ll let them know that you called.

Captain America takes funny posts seriously.

Hmmm…Captain America must be new to the Internet–he thought it was for useful or informative discussions. As Buzz Bissinger knows, it’s mainly for making fun of people anonymously and ridiculous discussions over impossible scenarios that never could happen.

Oh, and porn.

Kinda unfair to give the players that could have been without the reason for their departures, don’t you think?

Captain America takes funny posts seriously.

He also throws a shield…I mean, honestly, who throws a shield?

I had to look and see if this post somehow hit the home page. It hasn’t, but it is the top story in the sports subsection…

If George Mikan hadn’t aged, that would be really cool.

@ Toonces- Don’t forget racist/bigoted rants and copious amounts of swearing!

Also McHale is actually asking Ceiling Cat where it all went wrong.

Captain America

Shouldn’t you be saving babies, or [redacted] Wonder Woman.

The fact that Captain America doesn’t have faith in our made-up team going deep in the playoffs just makes me sad.

For Captain America, that is.

We will be who we will be until McHale has retired or takes over in Boston as GM. Wouldn’t Garnett love that?

CA is kind of harsh for a superhero. Don’t worry, Rand, your regulars know this discussion is only half as ridiculous as the revisionist history ones.

Hey Ron NaSal, McHale already IS the Celtics GM — it’s his first success as managment in this league

Well, we did that already, for several years. And who cares about Joe Smith and Sam Cassell? That’s like pining for your ex-wife.

FIRE MCHALE!!!

Oh, wait… wrong blog. The problem with the aforementioned line up is that all five scrubs are 6′5″ shooting guards with the last name Davis.

Our one day of Spring. Go out and enjoy it people!

How come that sharpshooter Mike James (now with NO) got left out? We demand answers!

Michael Rand says:

May 7th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

FDR: Is New Orleans in the East? Oh, right. They’re not. So there’s your answer.

ramon says:

I’m think he’s referring to the other Mike James, who definitely is in the East:
