Two links about “sports.” Vote for COW; full strength?

Posted on July 18th, 2008 – 2:00 PM
By Michael Rand

Brandon has posted on one of our favorite topics: How to define a sport. You can see his fine work right over here; you can also likely see him a less coherent state tonight.

Roughkat also chips in with a site where you can create your own sport. In your face, Brandon! (We think something that involves both the RandBall Car and competitive milkshake drinking would be delightful).

Rounding out the Wolves season ticket triumvirate, we invite you to vote for the Commenter Of the Week. Also note that we will be back at full strength next week. Always were! And now, we will be attending the new Batman film.

I vote for whoever was “ESPN” during the home run derby discussion. That was pure genius.

I vote for Rand for pulling out a Mariucci reference in this post.

What would be the distinguishing characteristics of a Rand COW post vs. the typical RandBall post? Perceivable effort?

I vote for anyone who doesn’t get their own special segment on this. That counts out Stu, Marthaler, Fasolamatt

I vote for Joker for the above mentioned comment.

Joker says:

+1 Rookie

Miles Tarver says:

Sorry Joker,

But Brandon Paulsen actually commented on the RandBall. I think he needs to write something now, perhaps about all the times he has whooped Stu.

(I still want Joker to write about his latest girl troubles)

I’m with Miles…

Be careful what you wish for.

I miss you Miles.

I’m not

Joker says:

July 18th, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Who said that?

Miles Tarver's Mustache says:

Shoot Ability

Is that one of the new metrics that Jay Bilas is bandying about during the NBA Draft?

“I mean, he’s got great length, great shootability”

Dave MN says:

July 18th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

Miles Tarver’s Mustache, it’s like you and I are of the same mind…

Just because I’m not any good, doesn’t mean you can make fun of me. Right Joker?

Joker says:

Miles Tarver’s Shooting Ability:

Right

Stu says:

Do absurd and/or regrettable people count?

Your COW is AZGopherGirl. Since she probably won’t submit anything, I move that Ookie write 300 words about the Tour de France, the new crop of dopers, and where I can find me some of that “super EPO.”

Full Strength? (That’s debatable)

we do the same chants in Sioux Falls at our minor minor league hoc-key games.

we also used to yell “go home” “who cares” etc. after every name called for the opponent line up announcements.

I guess they didn’t like it because they no longer introduce the opposing team.

We make our own fun in the biggest city in South Dakota.

Why did you spell meth “f-u-n”?

To throw off the Feds. Duh.

The Hootie says:

July 18th, 2008 at 3:57 pm

Randballers-

Any thoughts on where the Hootie bachelor party should migrate to after the Twins game tomorrow night? Plan is to be in the warehouse district area. I hate Brothers, so that’s out. What are your favorite haunts in that part of town?

Dave MN says:

July 18th, 2008 at 4:05 pm

The Hootie -

Go to Grumpy’s (on Washington Ave)

OR if you want to be drinking good beer.

Wander the half-mile or so to Town Hall over at Seven Corners.

Brothers sucks. I haven’t really found myself much of a fan of any of the downtown bars.

Dave MN says:

July 18th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

Correction:

Grumpy’s has good beer

Town Hall has GREAT beer.

The Hootie says:

July 18th, 2008 at 4:10 pm

Thanks for the suggestions, Dave. Maybe it’s time to give Town Hall another chance.

I want to hit Gleuk’s, but I’m not sure beyond that. The Hootie is not much of a dance club kinda guy, and mostly just wants to hang out and have some beer with his friends.

Dave MN says:

July 18th, 2008 at 4:27 pm

Town Hall has the outdoor patio which is perfect for pre- or post-game hanging out. While there, try the Cara Java (new release this week).

No, I don’t work there, but I am a Pint Club member.

AZGopherGirl says:

July 18th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

Sheesh, you fail to submit 75 words for a couple of months and you get shunned.

I was going to vote for The Hootie so we could get a bachelor party report. And then:

1) He referred to himself in the third person.

2) He made his bachelor party sound boring.

My vote is for Miles Tarver’s Mustache.

Dave MN says:

July 18th, 2008 at 6:14 pm

I think Miles Tarver’s Mustache has been about three different people today. In related news, so has Herschel Walker…

/shows self out

Dave MN says:

AZ Gopher Girl:

The Hootie’s just writing that because THH (The Hootie’s Hottie) is an avid RandBall reader, and he needs to stick to the story…

Actually, what he’s described sounds quite a bit like I would imagine my bachelor party to be…

The Hootie says:

July 18th, 2008 at 11:42 pm

Wait, referring to yourself in the 3rd person isn’t cool anymore? I keep missing these memos…

I don’t think the bachelor party will be boring, just not too crazy. I’ll be sticking to beer, (or so I say now) as the last time I drank exclusively hard liquor resulted in naked paddle-boating. Not a pretty sight.

Dave- Love THH. Up till now I’ve been blatantly ripping off Rand and referring to her as The Future Mrs. Hootie (TFMH), so it’s nice to have an alternative.

ramon says:

“Wait, referring to yourself in the 3rd person isn’t cool anymore? I keep missing these memos…”

Hootie - Now that Will Leech isn’t running Deadspin any longer, the Royal “We” is no longer “En Vogue”.

Unless I missed some memo.

fasolamatt says:

I vote for beer reviews from Dave Minnesota. I’m down to one Hopslam, supplemented with a couple of Avery IPAs, and wish for a recommendation for my next trip to the Wine Thief.

Miles Tarver's Mustache says:

It just seems like I’ve been three people, because I’s [redacted] talented.

Miles Tarver's Mustache says:

See, bet you didn’t know there was a contraction for “I is”.

fasolamatt says:

Miles Tarver’s Mustache gets out less on Saturday night than I do.
