TCTOD: Making more with less — the Wie Way

The other day we introduced a new feature we’re now calling The Commenter Talker Of the Day. The drill: You have something SO GOOD that it just can’t be contained by the comment section. It needs its own space as a separate post. You send us your golden riffs, and we post them at around 2 p.m. daily. Stu got the party started; and now, Newbie weighs in. As the name implies, Newbie is working his way into the regular RandBall commenting rotation. So far, he’s been insightful and timely. He now has the floor:

Do I have to wear a tin foil hat for this?

With your recent post about Michelle Wie, and the news that she is ranked the fifth-highest paid female athlete, I got to thinking: Is there an athlete that has made more money, but accomplished less in their sport than Wie?

She has earned $12 million, according to Forbes, and in her three seasons has 11 missed cuts, three withdrawals, and two disqualifications. Her best finish is second, once. By contrast, Annika Sorenstam has 10 majors and is listed at $11 million.

Here are some others that I can think of.

*Ryan Leaf: $11.25 million signing bonus, career 14-36 TD-INT ratio.

*Anna Kournikova: we all know her story.

*Billy Crystal: that guy has gobs of money and 1 at bat with the Yankees — and he struck out!

Who am I missing?

Did P3 sabotage RandBall because of all this negative Favray talk or is it just my computer that is moving as fast as a Pat Williams 40?

I’m having the same issues, jama, but it could just be that the 100 people all trying to enter CEDRIC BENSON!!!11!!1 at the same time are crashing the server.

I think the blog server was one of the 27 who voted against the new contract, and is now working to rule under protest.

Bring in Doug Flutie as the scab server.

Due to budget concerns, the Star Tribune server has been replaced by Nibbles the Hamster, who is now splitting time between Deadspin and the Strib.

We should exclude T-Wolves. That’s too easy.

Brian Bosworth comes to mind.

As does Andy Roddick.
