Oh, the hair drama on “Split Ends.” When Shauna Raisch, owner/hairstylist from Twiggs Salonspa in Wayzata, arrived at Melissa & Co. in Goodyear, Arizona, she immediately said the salon was “tacky” and Melissa accused her of being unprofessional for bringing her dog Gucci to work. (”Do you have your rabies paperwork?”) Shauna almost cried at the hair extensions she had to use at the salon.

In the end, Shauna didn’t exactly bond with anyone, though she got some respect for her skills. Krisanna, the 21-year old hairstylist, wanna-be Playboy bunny who spent three days at Twiggs, did okay in Wayzata. She learned the “signature” razor-cut and got the staff to wear bunny ears.

Here are some of Shauna’s most memorable lines:

– “Wayzata is a suburb in Minneapolis and it’s the wealthiest suburb in all of the Twin Cities area.”

– “Twiggs Salon Spa is the most edgy fashion-forward salon in all of the Twin Cities.”

– “Everything about Twiggs is perfect and that’s what I am.”

– “My standards for my staff are really high. I’m very selective If you’re fat, you don’t get through the front door. If you look like a slut, you don’t get past the front door. And if you look like a pole dancer, you don’t get through the front door.”

– “I take my workouts really seriously because I never want to be fat. That would be the most horrible thing in the world. Shoot me with a gun if I’m ever fat.”

Fat-phobic, much?

Now open at the Mall of America: Geox. I’ve been curious about these shoes for awhile. They claim to have a “breathable” sole, making them extra comfy and eliminating any foot perspiration problems. However, up until last week, they were impossible to find in these parts.

The new store is at the Mall of America (first floor, in between Sears and Nordstrom).  You’ll find men’s and women’s, including these flats ($134). While they also carry heels, flats are the rage right now–so why not run with it.

Would you like that headline deciphered? Heather Hambrecht designs leather accessories and clothing under the label (h(om)e).  Here she is modeling her own  dress (around $450) and belt ($198) with Rosa Mosa shoes that she bought at Shoo Store in Milwaukee. (Heather actually lives in Milwaukee.) Many of her pieces are multipurpose. That “belt?” It’s loaded with pockets so it kind of serves as a fancy utility belt where you can stash lots of goodies. She calls it the “Buddha belt,” in part, because it will cover your buddha.

Her handbags are convertible. The silver hardware is removable so you can easily turn a wristlet into a wallet.

“Split Ends” is the hair world’s equivalent of “Wife Swap.” Two, usually opposite, stylists switch lives and salons. Then chaos and hilarity ensues.

The episode airing at 5 p.m. on Saturday on the Style Network (235 on Direct TV, cable people are on their own) will feature Shauna Raisch of Twiggs Salonspa in Wayzata as she swaps spots with an Arizona-based woman.

In the above promo, that’s Shauna’s nephew David McCarthy who is rumored to have a fun role in the program.

While we’re at it, have you been watching season two Kimora Lee Simmons’ “Life in the Fab Lane?” It airs on Sundays and is required viewing. Seriously.

You might recall that there was a trunk show at Gallery 360 last night. What a fun place to shop! On my way out, this bright resin jewelry by Solrojo (a designer in Argentina) caught my eye.

This yellow necklace ($98) is just perfect for summer. There’s a sort of lightness that comes from the transparency. As designer Kimberly Jurek pointed out–it looks like candy on a string. The gray one on the rack would look awesome over a tank and full skirt.  Not ready to commit? Pick up a ring for a touch of color for just $17 to $23.

While I was at Washburn’s prom on Saturday night, guest blogger, high school student Allison Malecha (you’ve seen her photography before) was a volunteer and model in the Goodwill’s Second Runway. Ironic, no? Here’s her report from the show:

“High Fashion” isn’t exactly the term that comes to mind when someone brings up Goodwill, but the Goodwill/Easter Seal Second Runway Fashion Show last Saturday definitely approached just that. The off-the-rack outfits featured well-known brands such as Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, and Elie Tahari (hello, a pristine Tahari skirt for $8.99 — does it get any better?) taken straight from Goodwill stores.

But the real showstoppers appeared in the second half of the show. Local designers took regular old Goodwill items, chopped them up, and pieced them back together into stunning new garments. Karen Moberg transformed some flowery bedsheets into a crisp little summer dress (above photo) while Christina Schuster, who is graduating this year from the U of M, disassembled a prom dress, some jeans, and curtains to create a sassy new dress. Styles ranged from everyday chic to naughty secretary to futuristic superhero, and Thom Navarro’s sexy line compiled of far from everyday t-shirts finished he night off
with a bang.

Mixed in with all of this fun and frill hovered a sense of do-gooding as co-hosts Alexis Walsko and Katherine Gerdes reminded everyone of the Goodwill mission: “to assist people with barriers to education, employment, and independence in achieving their goals.” And the proceeds from the event itself as well as from the auctioning off of the garments after will all go to help that mission stay strong. All in all the event was a success, and I will definitely never look at Goodwill the same way again!

(She is a freshman in the retail merchandising program at the University of Minnesota.)  Her jeans are True Religion from MetroPark at the Mall of America and her shoes are Steve Madden. The necklace is by local designer Helen Wang from Il Vostro.

Next year: She’s going to the University of Minnesota and he’s going to Augsburg to study political science.
