Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoes! And a few words to bloggers about Bitten…

So here they are: The Alexander McQueen pumps that SJP wore on her visit to Minneapolis. (Thanks to Joey McLeister for the photos.) They really are the pink version of the ruby slippers. You can read about the rest of her visit in today’s strib. However, I saved part of her defense of Bitten, the new clothing line debuting in June at Steve & Barry’s for the blog world. Here is what she said, unedited:
“What’s interesting to know about a blogger, and I’m glad we live in a democracy and we can all have an opinion is that these clothes are not made for people in the fashion industry. These clothes are about people all over the country who don’t have access to really well made, affordable clothing. It’s wonderful that people in the fashion industry can borrow things, and have the money and the financial means, never mind the logistical access to clothes that are very fashionable and of the moment. What’s really important is that women in this country, really, really feel good about who they are and that we make things affordable and accessible. So there’s no criticism that a person can make about it. They don’t have to wear them. It’s really important that women in this country have an opportunity to have the things that all of us who do have the financial means can have. And that they should be really well made and they can fit in with their peer group, or they can feel good when they go to an interview and they can still pay their utilities and they can still take care of their children or buy a present for a friend. So criticism like that is negligible and it’s foolish.”

While I totally agree with SJP’s populist approach to fashion, I’m a bit confused by her methods. If the clothes aren’t for those in the fashion industry, then why did she host an exclusive launch for editors from Vogue, Glamour, WWD, and other fashion industry folks prior to local newspapers? Also it would also seem to me that if the fashions are for real people, then having the blog world behind you is the way to go
Sarah, I’m not sure if this is my computer or what, but sometimes when you post pictures it covers up text. Today, I can only see the SJP quote starting at blogger. Her (GORGEOUS) shoes cover up the rest. I don’t seem to have this problem on other Strib blogs…? I want to see the first part!
Shruti– Is it fixed? I’ve heard that it’s a problem, but it doesn’t happen on my screen. Sorry! I’ll see what I can do. — Sara
hi sara. the image still isn’t fixed. love the blog.
Love those shoes! Betsey Johnson makes a similar pair that I recently bought from Zappos.com…fabulous!
Am I the only one who thinks that her feet look awful! The veins are popping out like she’s trying to hang on to the inside of the shoes with her toes. Perhaps she should lower the heel for less strain.
I must agree with woot. The shoes were the second thing I saw. Not even shiny objects could distract me from her tortured dogs.
YAY, now it works.
I did notice her veiny feet, but I’m assuming that if I, or anyone else, were to wear those shoes, they wouldn’t be taking up close pictures of my feet. I’m sure all our feet look gross and veiny up close, especially when we are in our 40s.
This is why I wear cute patterned tights.
Perhaps SJP debuted her line to the editors or Vogue, etc to give them a chance to back her feeling that style and fashion should be made available to all the women of the world, not just the people who can afford the current lines. It makes sense to me that she would want to reach today’s designers so that they would have a chance to weigh in on what she is trying to do and get behind her. That’s just my HO.
Okay, I’m a gay guy… that said: These shoes are disturbing to me. Despite the fact that they are Alexander McQ, they are much too high and the toe curves up like an elf shoe. Then there are those bazaar plastic straps that cut across the top of her feet messing with the overall impression reminding me of some sort of ballet shoe on acid. Sara (jessica parker that is) I’m disappointed in you.
Joanna-
Actually the line was already complete at that time. Still is does seem a bit hypocritical that she would say her line if made for real women with real budgets and then debut it to members of the press who promote ($5000 dresses, $500 shoes, etc) all that the line is suppose to be dispelling….. How many real women with real budgets can purchase anything in Vogue? Also has SJP ever shopped in a Steve& Barry’s? I highly doubt it…
OMG! Sara’s feet not only look beat up and veiny, but her ankles look bruised and you can see her fake tan marks on her ankles. If she saw this picture she would be shocked!
“The Budget Babe” apparently seems to think SJP can do no wrong, and takes on the bloggers who bash her:

her feet look sick and those shoes look painful. What makes them so cute? basically heels with rhinestones.
While it does seem hypocritical to throw a launch party for the editors of Vogue, Glamour, WWD, these are the people who are going to put her clothes in the editorial pages of the magazines–important for any designer who wants their line to be successful.
I really dought that alot of celebrities wear or use what they are promating on t.v. or even there clothing line. Lets get real. It mite seem hypocritical but she is just trying to promote her stuff and make it succesful. Any one is lying if they say they would not do the same thing.
I like what SJP is doing for her clothing line. I also read her interview about her clothing line. To me it seems like she is not saying that she wears these cloths. She is just designing them.
Lets face if anyone can sell me a pair of leather wedges for$10.00 of less, I’m for it. Let the woman promote her product anywhere she wants, I’m for it.
as for those shoes, I don’t care who made them they are to high and they’re ugly.
Sarah, I love, love, love, your new clothing line. I am a mother of 2 fashion icon daughters. Our community is in great need of your clothing line. BUT we need to add a specific fashion line to it. I know if you give me an opportunity to share my need/idea you would agree with this addition to your line. I am so anxious to talk with you ASAP. PLEASE CALL ME AT 513-470-4795
Sarah, I saw your new clothing line (Bitten) on Oprah and I loved it. Is there a website site that I can go on to see more or what stores will carry your line? Yours in style in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Would like to know where to find the clothe Bitten line of clothes at Steve & Barrys, the Sarah Jessica Parker speaks about on the Oprah Winfrey show on May18,2007
I would like to know where the clothing line is made.
Sarah, I was really excited to see your new clothing line (Bitten) on Oprah last week. I am a midwest girl and am curious where we will be able to find your line. You were so genuine and inspired that the excitement for this line was immediate. The prices are to die for…. so now, where can we shop for them!?
I am a Sales Manager for a retail clothing store in Missoula Montana and would like to know where we can find the new bitten line.
thanks Ruthie
Hi there: I am most interested in your line of clothing! Will the clothes be available soon, and where in South Florida will I be able to purchase them? I have a daughter(how fortunate for me) who is a perfect size 2, and( how fortunate for her!), she has a really hard time buying clothes in her size. Forget about our department stores…often times she is referred to the young girls sections! Oh, please help! Where and when????
I must say that I was shocked when I saw that photo of her shoes. The shoe are cute; her feet/ankles are not. Stockings would have helped. I know, I know … women don’t like to wear them anymore. But there are times when a little nylons would have helped.
I think the shoes are awful let alone the picture. Her legs are not exactly lookin’ smokin’. For those of you who commented on her not expecting her feet to photographed…it shouldn’t matter. She’s a celebrity, always be prepared because things like this just so seem to pop up. I don’t have a problem with Sarah Jessica Parker at all however, I do not care for her clothing line. I think it’s very bland. Understanding a “budget” for a majority of our country, I’m sure a little more creativeness could have been called into play here. Best of Luck to you Ms. Parker!
What I love is that we all live such a life of luxury that we have the time to care about Sarah Jessica’s shoes and/or ankles. We are blessed.

This is the thing about the fashion industry. I look at things like these shoes and say the same things a previous poster said…heels too high, toes curled up, what’s with that plastic strappy thing? But apparently, this is high fashion.
Those of us who live real lives and work for a living should just ignore the fashion world and enjoy our lives. How can clothes and shoes become so important to people?
Regrettably, Steve & Barry’s is not equipped to serve the Bitten line. I tried to contact SJP via Oprah’s website and received no response. I have visited four S&B locations several times and called on a bi monthly basis. Other than the opening day of the release, the stores are under-inventoried and the inventory is in entire disarray, often even tied in knots and strewn about the floors and dressing rooms while the shelves are empty. Bitten jeans are the best I have ever worn, superior to those costing even $300. I am very eager to purchase additional items but they are simply not available. I wear size 2 or 4, average or short length… there is simply nothing stocked. I am eager for the Hound’s-tooth coat and have called regularly including two calls to S&B corporate. I constantly received the reply that they were “coming next month” and, then, two days apart in my calls, I was told either that they are sold out or that they are being withheld and stores are not permitted to release them.
Had SJP selected a better retail facility to handle this line, she’d be enjoying greater success. Other than the first day, shoes, lingerie, intimate apparel, purses, belts and jewelry don’t even exist. I live near NYC where the S&B stores are in large, low scale malls. They simply have little inventory, are not at all maintained and are serviced by the most poorly trained and apathetic staffs I have ever witnessed. Calling in advance to insure they have inventory has also been a waste of time as the illiterate store managers tell me they have inventory and, thirty minutes later when I am standing in the store, they deny ever speaking to me and are not bright enough to even feign remorse.
I am immensely frustrated as I am trying so hard not to abandon my efforts to actually get my hands on additional items. It’s been hard work, thus far. Soon, I will call it a disaster.
Does anyone have contact info for SJP or her representative?
Hey, I completely agree, SJP says she wants to give the everyday woman access to this line, however there are only 200 S&B stores throughout the US in only 33 states. Plus you say the inventory is not replenished a necessary amount (and you can only access her clothes in the actual store). Ultimately I believe SJP would have much greater success if she launched a line with H&M. H&M, the international store will give SJP global exposure-and their store’s mantra is to create clothes at the “best” price-still in line with SJP’s vision. I am currently writing a report on this topic and if anyone has any comments or contact info for SJP or her representatives-please comment back on this! Thanks!
I’m Australian & I would love to see Bitten SJP come to Australia. I’m sure there’d be many department stores here who would be happy to bring this label into their stores. Please, not H&M as Alliboo has recommended as Australia doesn’t have this store. It would be even better if smaller boutiques were given the opportunity to stock this brand rather than have them compete with the larger department stores.
