Backstage at Lela Rose, the designer’s dog Stitch roams freely. She carried her 14-month old daughter Rosey. I overheard her son Grey, tugging at his father’s sleeves saying, “Can we go to the New York Public Library after this?”

Here’s Stitch tugging at Lela’s shoes–from her fall 2008 collection for Payless. They’re in a wool flannel with a tortoise shell plaque. She told me she prefers the fabric shoes over leather. About her collection: “It’s Susie Chapstick meets Park Avenue,” she said.
