Tonight is the premier of “Lipstsick Jungle.” Imagine my great joy at having a seat next to Dan Lawson, the show’s costume designer at the Michael Kors show, especially since we had a solid 30 minutes to kill before the show.

He had just come from the Nanette Lepore show. “The colors were gorgeous,” he said. “Some styles would be perfect for Lindsay Price, who plays Victory Ford.” He picked out a red shiny coat, in particular.

He wanted to emphasize that “Lipstick Jungle” isn’t about the wardrobe. “For us, it’s story first; fashion second.”

How does he dress the show’s three power women? “The ladies are experts on their characters. They had their own ideas about different styles and what works on them,” he said.

So here’s the scoop on who wears what:

Brooke Shields as Wendy Healy

Style: Contemporary business look, rooted in old Hollywood Glamour. “She won’t just wear a white blouse—it would be a fabulous wrap by Daphne.” However, Brooke is easy to dress. “You could put her in a paper bag, belt it, and heels and be done.”

Brands: Asprey of London, Ralph Lauren, Daphne blouses, Rachel Roy, Naeem Khan and Dior.

Lindsay Price as Victory Ford

Her style: She’s a fashion designer so Lawson tries to dress her as if the designs were her own. Her signature would be a dress look, fun, feminine, flirty and sexy. She also wears these glass rings by Legge and Braine. She’s also a business woman, so she might wear a knee-length dress or a mini.

Brands: Peter Som, Derek Lam, 3.1 Phillip Lim, DKNY, Diane von Furstenberg, and Fendi.

Kim Raver as Nico Reilly

Her style: She’s an editor-in-chief. For Kim, we try to create dresses with longer jackets over it.

Brands: Michael Kors (quite a bit!), Alberta Ferretti, and Fendi

Shoes for all of the ladies: Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Fendi, and Sergio Rossi.

More about Dan Lawson: He worked on the series “Third Watch” and the movie “Revolutionary Road” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet that will be out in 2008. He currently lives in Montclair, NJ and his four-year-old daughter shopped with him for some of the costumes at the Short Hills mall. This is his first fashiony show and fashion week.

Dan loved the Michael Kors show—saying he wanted to go out and buy a fedora for himself, immediately.

More about “Lipstick Jungle”: They’ve filmed seven episodes and are now stalled because of the writers’ strike. He also pointed out Candace Bushnell in the front row.
