If the ugly dress theory is true, things are looking up for Diablo Cody. So far, the winning ladies are in the most hideous dresses of the night.
Best actress Marion Cotillard wore a scaley fish-like gown. She might have screeched her acceptance speech a la Daryl Hannah in “Mermaid.”
Best supporting actress, Tilda Swinton, wore a dress that looked like a hefty sack. I guess she went with hefty, hefty, hefty, instead of wimpy, wimpy, wimpy.
So if the bad dress is a good luck charm, things are looking up for Cody and her wild-about-rhinestones gown. Daniel Day Lewis might also fare well, since his wife, Rebecca Miller, is wearing a gemstone-and-crazy dress.

Totally agree, Sara - very disappointed in Tilda’s look - and she wasn’t even one of the pregnant ones! What do you think of hair color? I loved it.
Love Tilda’s hair color, but I wish she would have worn some makeup! That would have definitely helped her glam up.
I disagree. Marion was one of the best dressed at the Oscars. Her dress was actually unique! The French know how to dess and are always way farther ahead of the curve! Unlike the red Marchesa dress that Anne Hathaway wore that had been done already by Kate Winslet a couple of years ago! It looked someone bought those flowers from a craft store and tacked them on!
Thank you Jackie! I thought I was alone in thinking Marion’s dress was fabulous!
I agree once again on your comment about the Marchesa dress…far too matronly for the young Anne…even if she is a bit old fashioned.
