Jeff Strickler and I pick our favorite moments from the ceremony

Strickler: I think it speaks to the weakness of this show that the part(s) I liked the best were the highlights of past shows. The show desperately needed a Michael Moore rant or Roberto Benigni explosion, and it never came. I’m thrilled for the Coens, but they need to chugalug a gallon of coffee before the next awards show.
Glassman: I was excited when Diablo Cody won! (There were cheers at the Star Tribune.) Agree on the Coens. Funny, but tired. Otherwise, I was kind of bored…Jon Stewart, wha happened?

I almost cried along with Diablo. She was so cute and sweet, I like to see her emotional and real =)
Also, yay for Minnesota!
Happy to see this too!
But Sara, what did you think of Diablo Cody’s dress? I hated it until I saw the full-length, and now I’m just not sure. Seems like she could pull off something more interesting.
Agreed! She’s so beautiful and bold that I think she could have pulled off a stronger look. Not a huge fan of the slit and the rhinestone trim.
SO happy for Diablo but I’m going to say it. Her dress looked like something off the Frederick’s of Hollywood discount rack! What WAS she thinking?
No matter really. It’s the main point. The point is. WHOO HOO!
WAY TO GO DIABLO! Way to go Minnesota.
NOT the main point I mean. ;-( Whoops.
I was worried her dress was going to open up too much you know where, but I liked the overall “I do what I want” vibe.
I was hoping the dress would just kinda fall off….
If you aren’t obsessed with http://www.gofugyourself.com yet, you will be after you read their analysis of D.C.’s dress. http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/go_fug_yourself/2008/02/oscars-fug-ca-1.html#more
And I quote: “How do you NOT do a quick crotch-check before you leave the house? As she strode up to the podium, Diablo tried uncomfortably to hold her hand over The Area.”
