Handbag designer Adrienne Grahn and silver jewelry designer Karin Jacobson are having a sale so amazing this weekend–it’s like they’re giving it away.
Adrienne will be peddling her new and discontinued handbags (most recently seen paired with George Moskal’s Voltage runway collection). There will bags available for as little as $10 to $30. Karin is making room for some new designs. So she’s retiring some of her previous silver collections (all silver!), including almost the entire “flower” and “rocket” series. That means half-off on necklaces ($45 marked down from $90) and rings ($55 down from $110).
Sunday, April 27, noon to 4 p.m., at Karin’s studio, Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, Mpls.

Feel better, Zang Toi!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

0410_zang_toi_1.jpg

Yesterday’s personal appearance by Zang Toi was missing one major thing–Zang! Sadly, Toi was sick and couldn’t make his annual trip to Nordstrom at the Mall of America.

Despite Zang’s absence, we were still treated to a glimpse at his fall 2008 collection–inspired by the America Indian. Just look at the luxurious blanket wrap adding a twist on the elegant evening gown. Also check out model Lacey Lamon in a stunning gown. I’ve never seen so many people stop to chat in Nordstrom. The dramatic back draping is a show-stopper and shopper-stopper too. His sportswear epitomizes everyday luxuries such as this cozy fur-collar coat.

Anyway, I was filled in by Zang’s proxy Gigi about the designer’s upcoming inspiration trip for his spring 2009 collection. The theme will likely be “Southern belle.” Zang is going to Natchez, Mississippi, where he’ll stay on Monmouth Plantation.

Preview “Prom Night” for free…sorta

0409_prom_night.jpg

Do you like scary movies? Got a prom dress to spare? The first 25 people to arrive at an advanced screening of the new movie “Prom Night” on Thursday night with a prom dress to donate will get two free passes to the movie.

Just show up at 6 p.m. at AMC Rosedale at 6 p.m. with your dress in hand. The gowns will go to Ever After, one of several local organizations to give away dresses with high school students who need them. (Their annual event is this coming weekend, so the donations will be just-in-time.

Of course, after watching Brittany Snow struggle to surviver her “Prom Night,” there might be less demand for prom dresses this year.

Visit www.everaftergowns.org for more information and additional drop-off locations.
