Pistons sit three starters
Posted on April 1st, 2008 – 6:27 PMBy Jerry Zgoda
Pistons coach Flip Saunders walked past Randy Wittman 75 minutes before game time tonight and referring to his evening’s starting lineup said, “And it’s not an April Fool’s Day joke, either.”
Really?
With his Pistons virtually locked into the Eastern Conference’s second playoff spot with 15 days still left in the season, Saunders is giving Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton the night off in what he called both a reward and a rest for jobs well done this season.
On Sunday, the Wolves won their seventh game in March and their fourth consecutive at home, beating a Utah team missing starters Andrei Kirilenko and Mehmet Okur. On Tuesday, the Pistons started Jarvis Hayes, Rodney Stuckey, Tayshaun Prince, Antonio McDyess and longtime Target Center favorite Theo Ratliff.
Maybe it’s Flip backhanded way at paying his former team back by possibly costing them another couple of lottery ping-pong balls as the Wolves aim for this fifth consecutive home victory.

The Indiana Hoosiers just hired the head coach from Marquette, so my hope of the Wittless Wonder leaving via the Hoosiers is gone.
Flip could out coach Wittless in his sleep with a 3rd grade girls team!
it’s time to end the reign of terror
THE END OF THE TRIUNE FAILURE!
RANDY WITTLESS
KEVIN McCHUMP
GLEN FAILURE
Basketball’s version of the three stooges.
Me thinks BC and El Douch are the same person. anyone else?
I have no idea who that person is.
I am only me, I never use any other name on here, and it goes with my expression451 name when I comment on news stories. But I don’t know El Douch.
I just hate Kevin McHale. I have since he was a player in Boston, and I grew up a Lakers fan. After the last 12 years anyone who doesn’t hate Kevin McHale is someone I question. Hating him is something I can easily bond with those people…
Attention Wolves Admin; Many teams are using their bench players this time of year (see Heat, Pistons, etc….)
Make the connection;
Bench players = Higher Draft Pick
Higher Draft Pick = Better Team
Better Team = More Wins
More Wins = Play-offs
The Wolves are the only team dumb enough (of the bottom 5) to go with the naive notion of “we are going to win as many as we can”.
Play Doleac, Madsen, Walker, Richards and leave in Jaric to run the point…now that would not only be beneficial to the team in the years to come, but, also, very entertaining in a cumbersome way.
haha i agree Slam Man. we need to start playing the scrubs!! its mad dog time! and i was hoping that whittman would go to Indiana too but i guess thats not going to happen now. oh well
Sorry men, didn’t have a chance to watch the game, but I noticed Flip sat three starters, so I can only assume the Wolves won….right?
I mean I heard they were up by a lot at one point, and knowing how good they are with the lead, I’m just sure they won.
I’ll check ESPN just to be sure, but when a non sports magazine proclaims your GM, Kevin McHale is the best, you just have to put your trust in him. In fact, looking back at their successful past, you know things are headed in the right direction.
Go team, Go!!!!
Wouldn’t it be great if Taylor bought all of Minnesota’s pro sports teams?
He’s dreamy.
This season is all about evaluating and developing young talent. All the good draft picks in the world will not help you win until your young talent learns how to play in the NBA. This team has come a long way since the start of the season, and this is no time to pack it in.
Bench players = Higher Draft Pick
Higher Draft Pick = Better Team
Better Team = More Wins
More Wins = Play-offs
You have followed the Wolves for a while, right? You do realize that this hasn’t really been the case, right?
Dave,
I don’t pick on mentally challenged people, so I won’t respond to your observation.
El Douch…you gave me a good laugh there…thank you.
The Fans have been waiting all year for the Wolves to unleash the MAD-DOG! What is it going to take to get the guy some PT?
Maybe they are waiting until the games are meaningless….
We deserved to be entertained. Even if it is by Doleac, Mad-Dog, Richards, Walker and Jaric at the point…the other team better be wearing helmets.
I’ll say it before someone else does. The games are all meaningless … have been all year. This year and next year are largely about biding time, not screwing up the draft, and waiting for cap room.
The games are meaningless, yes, unless of course you’re trying to get the kids experience, trying to judge talent, see who fits where, etc.
I think we will surprise alot of teams next year, barring any injuries. Look at Denver all that talent and they still suck. thats amazing.
They’re going to win 50 games or close to it. If that’s “sucking”, then your beloved McHale has built a team that sucks in 9 of his 13 seasons. And the Nuggets are still three tries sort of tying the Wolves’ NBA record of seven first-round defeats in a row.
nuggets still have ALOT more talent than those wolves teams did. oops. For what they have, the nuggets absolutely suck.
try again hoss.
Of course all the games are meaningless (now)…that was the point!
Arenal, I agree, I think if the Wolves can get a Star out of the draft to add to the teams improvement, they will get 40 wins next year. Any predictions for wins next year?
Madsen and Doleac both scored in tonights loss. Good move Wittman. Now, they are ready to start the rest of the season.
Someone start prying Walker’s butt off of the bench, I want him to be a part of this. Plus, the Wolves need to give him a chance to promote himself for trade-ability this summer.
May the lottery balls bring us Beasley.
8 more losses…just 8 more.
This just in, the Heat started their ball boy in tonights game.
Arenal, you’re saying the Wolves didn’t have enough talent during the “glory” years? Well, that’s McHale’s fault.
Try again, hoss.
erenal is Kevin McHale’s nephew or something… I’ve never seen someone defend someone this poor for no reason. Hell Ted Bundy’s lawyer got paid at least to defend him.
And I’d take Bundy over McHale as a GM of this team!
