Six new rides will start spinning Saturday at the Mall of America’s newly overhauled amusement park. The price for an annual pass to the remodeled Nickelodeon Universe will be $250, compared with the old $99 yearly fee. An unlimited, one-day wristband will cost $29.95, up $5. What’s your reaction to the price increases?

My two little children will miss camp snoopy, and probably wont get to know the Nickelodeon Universe any time soon. I would think that the MOA would use the Park to bring in more business, but it’s ride pricing stratagy seems to conflict with that notion. I’ll add this destination to my list of other activities I cannot afford - like pro sporting events and Hannah Montana concerts….

While I was looking to take my 2 grandchildren to the park at MOA - you can be that with these prices IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. First they kick out the kids half way through the day and now they want to charge this price. No wonder the 4th floor is sooooo vacant.

WOW - someone please explain the math to me…so they raise prices to “pay for the renovations” - prices so high that ultimately fewer families will go to the park - so how exactly does that “help”?! Seems to me, the park was just fine as it was - and MANY paying visitors at the lower fees trump that of few paying visitors with the exorbitant (daresay extortionate?!) prices? Hmm….Sorry - next they will try to charge us to walk INTO the park! Shame shame - guess I’ll have to cross that once-family friendly frequent destination of our list :(

These prices are absolutely astronomical. It is such a shame that family entertainment has grown so expensive. A family of four can’t even go to a movie theatre without dropping over $50 for tickets and maybe some cheap snacks. We will not be bringing our son to the MOA Nickelodeon Universe any time soon.

I was amazed yesterday when the new brochure for the Nickelodeon Universe arrived in my mail box. We have purchased year ride passes twice for my daughter. It was always a good value and I felt as though letting her go on 3-4 rides was plenty for each visit. But over $200 for 1 child, there is NO way I would pay that! I miss Snoopy!

I am very disappointed with the price. I will not be taking my daughter (9), and all of her friends more then once for the upcoming year. We visit Florida evey year and visit all of the parks. Convenience is the “ONLY” advantage we see that the new Park has. What a shame. Very disappointed.

With all the new rides and redevelopment, I think the $5 daily increase is reasonable. However, the $150 annual pass increase is nothing short of absurd. Why would someone spend $250 per kid (and adult) at Camp Snoopy, er, Park at MOA, er Nickelodian Universe… when they can spend $80 for an annual pass at Valleyfair, a much better park (even if it is seasonal?) It just doesn’t make sense.

I too miss Snoopy very much. I always thought the prices there were a bit high, especially when paying per ride, and the increase is just making it harder to justify going to…

My prediction is that when they see how few people fork over $250 for the passes, the prices are going to be lowered significantly…

We’ve been taking our grandchildren, regularly, for several years and purchasing the annual passes for Camp Snoopy. However, this unreasonable increase will end our regular visits and, if and when we go, we’ll pay only for a few rides at a time. It is a sad development!

I am the Tom Schmidt quoted in the story. I hope the folks at the Mall see the light & change this. All the other ride tickets/wristbands went up 25%, but the annual pass price more than doubles? 127% higher?

If the annual pass price had also gone up 25% it would have gone up to $135. With all the major new rides they have added I can see that. That would have been reasonable, but $250 is out of line. This is a park that is much smaller than the Disney parks, and to charge basically the same price for an annual pass is outrageous.

$250? Per child???? Outrageous. Disneyland, ok… but let’s face it, renovations or not - this is no Disneyland. Couldn’t they have better spent a fraction of this renovation money on re-negotiating the Camp Snoopy contract (and kept the ticket prices affordable)???

PS, like all the other commentators here, the MOA has lost my family’s business as well. Good luck with that pricing increase, MOA… you’ll end up lowering them back down when you see the demand for tickets PLUMMET.

I was looking forward to taking my daughter to the new park but was so taken aback by the huge jump in price that there is no way they will get my business. There are plenty of other activities around the Twin Cities for kids that don’t try to take parents for every cent they can get.

If you are outraged by this price increase, which makes the annual pass price for Nickelodeon Universe the same as the much, much larger Disneyland & Disney World parks, here’s who you can contact:

Actually the price increase will be a good thing for my kids. I can use Nick Universe as an example to teach them the value of money and the dangers of advertising. If you can’t afford something, no matter how neat or fun it looks, no matter how much advertising is crammed down your throat, you need to be resolute and resist temptation.
